I am new to this site but it had become my favorite of the "Gun Forums". Do not post much but just sit back and soak up as much knowledge as possible for my few brain cells. Read the thread on Leaving Gun in Car and felt the need to respond. Boy was it an awakening for me. The name calling. If you believe something you should be able to state it without getting personal and belittling someone. What really disappoints me though is that the moderators did not shut it down early on but even took a side. So that is the way I see it here.
I will not stop viewing for that would just hurt me, the irresponsible stupid gun owner who is screwing it up for you responsible gun owners. Remember when you took the CHL and they talked about ways to diffuse a situation through communication. How is that working for you? |

i think that did get a bit out of hand. but at the same time, people ahve the right to be opinionated, and i personally just find it amusing. i say by all means, keep it up! it keeps things interesting. unfortunatly some people have a limited command of the english language, and the end result is a decent point being dummed down to name calling, even to the point of profanity.
on an entirely different note, jsut remeber alot of people, even the ones with valid points of view, are jsut not as intelligent as others. that doesnt make them bad people or any less entitled to speak their minds. now im not saying that is the case with that particualr incident, or any of the parties involved, as a mtter of fact im not saying anyhting about that. jsut brining to light that even though this is a fantastically enlightened, informative and at times extremely amusing internet forum, it is still an internet forum. if ya think this is bad, check out facethejury or 4chan or any of the others, and you will see the extreme levels of incompetence and verbal violence that these thing (simple differences of opinions) can reach. so in short, just take the things you read on any online venue (including this post) with a grain of salt, and remind yourself, that everyone is an expert when they are behind a keyboard. especially when they are drunk! rofl |

I don't like people slagging the forum, so of course I took a side. As for the rest of the thread, it was highly opinionated from the start.

I still stand by every statement I made in it.

Do you think the general public is better served when an irresponsible gun owner has their weapon stolen from their vehicle? A gun in the hand of a criminal that could have been 100% prevented? If you are in a situation where you can not carry, then do not go there. If you are KNOW you will be going somewhere you can not carry, then leave your damned gun at home. DO NOT LEAVE IT IN YOUR FREAKIN' CAR ![]() Want to know how easy it is to spot. Go to a big parking lot of a 30.06 posted business on a busy day and see how many come back to their vehicles after stopping at the front door, and stash it under the seat, console, or glove box. As armed citizens we need to be MORE aware of our situation, and be more responsible than your average Joe. How is making your weapon easily available to a criminal a responsible act? I stand by 100% of what I said in the thread you are refering to.

I can't believe I missed the original thread about not leaving it in your car... I just read that entire thread and saw no reason to take offense to the OP's comments. I felt they were addressed and well put, If we ewant to be called responsible gun owners then we need to act accordingly. The first thing I did before carrying in my trucks was buy 2 lock boxes that are secured to the seat frame to prevent theft and then I plan ahead as to not be the (obvious) one going back to my vehicle.
I think that particular thread was fine until a couple took offense to what appears to be actions they make routinely. If I hadn't been locking my gun up and read that I might have said wow thats me, I disagree, or I might have said, wow thats a valid point and some good ideas posted about how to do this better ![]()

I thought the thread got out of hand. My solution ... don't go back to those threads.
Learn to "forum" and stop complaining about people that popped your cherry.

My only complaint was I spotted the thread, wanted to reply, and it was already locked. I didn't think it was out of hand, just some spirited comments.
I wish there was another thread on this topic so that I can reply. |

Sometimes threads are locked before they really get out of hand. I've been moderating forums for 7 years now, so I've kinda got a feel for how things are going to go.
