The Porsche Manual actually suggests 15,000 between oil changes with Mobil 1......

Yes. 5w-30 is a good all around weight. It's good on fuel economy and flows well at start-up. A lighter oil should be used in the winter, but I would only be concerned if the motor was using a greater than 40wt. oil, and if I lived in the panhandle where temps are consistently low in the winter.

Porsche knows more about their cars than anyone else. If they stand by 15K changes, then I'd feel comfortable going that far. I probably would change the oil every 7 - 8K instead on my personal vehicle. On my BMW the filter can be changed out without getting under the car, and without spilling half the oil on the ground. That enables me to go longer on the oil change, since I can change the filter more often. |

I'm not to worried about switching in the winter around here with any 5w-30. Do I have to go to the Nissan dealership to get the Nissan oil filter or do they have them at Auto Zone or Oreillys?

Unfortunately, Nissan. I just buy like 5 - 6 of them at the same time.

I was always told never to use synthetic oil in an older vehicle, the gaskets will leak etc. I wouldnt recommend Pennzoil for anything but, for lawn mowers. Mobil one is a very good synthetic as noted and amsoil. The only thing I have a big problem with synthetic oil is spending lots of money. I use Valvoline 20-50w in my truck, ive used it for 6 years without problems.

20w50 is an extremely viscous oil. Is the truck rated for this oil, and do you do any towing? |

no just 10 min of driving 5 days a week. Thats what I was told to use by uncle who knows cars for 20 plus years. My truck always seems funny with a lighter weight oil, but i put the heavier weight in her and she runs fine. Wow royal purple oil... I was told to stay clear from that also simply because it cost 6 something a quart.

Define funny. 20w50 is horrible on start-up wear, and puts alot of strain on the oil pump. It's also going to backfeed alot of oil through the pressure relief valve until it warms up. |
