Default online backups

Who do you use for online backups? Mozy, Carbonite, someone else?

The old reviews I've read give Mozy the nod.

You may want to consider an external hard drive instead. You can get a 250 gig drive for $60 and it's as easy to use as plugging in a mouse. You'd also have to buy the backup software, so figure that cost in too. One possible disadvantage is that it'll burn down too if the house does. But it's cheaper than a continuous monthly fee.

I keep my back up drive in my BOB because if the house does catch fire my BOB is coming with me!

I'd have to agree with that. In the long run an external hard drive is the cheaper option. Also, my life's experiences have taught me to trust no one/nothing. Having some company store my files for me and then, bink, they go bankrupt of whatever and the news media is all over the fiasco how umpteen thousands of customers lost all their data......no way! I maintain two backups, one I keep with my laptop and one that goes in my fireproof safe.

Online Backup - IDrive - Remote Data Backup - For Windows and Mac - IDrive Portable Hard Drive

2 gig with the free account. My stuff backs up automatically every day and you get an email saying how many files were backed up & when. The cool thing is it only does files that are changed. So the initial backup may take an hour or two, the daily backup only takes a few seconds. It's the best money I never spent.

yerah i dont trust online backups.
jsut seems a little fishy to me.
call me paranoid, but my files are MY files, and i dont want anyone else 'holding on to them" for me.
even if it is in some hardrive ina closet somehwere, that noone goes.
i like my TB external.
heavy encryption!

I want my data in my hands, not someone else's. My advice, get a 2nd external because you never know what may happen to just one.

I like my detachable drive also. I am not a fan of leaving all my data online with a company. It is a hackers bullseye. Plus, those external drives are getting less expensive every month.
