It's probably a joke, Onion or something like that. But...........

It's just as far fetched say in Kollifornia to have the anti-gun laws there. They make absolutely no sense, like the aforementioned fingerprinting to buy ammo.

Glad that I don't have to live in that cesspool.

The 2nd ammenddment does not abridge the right to keep and bear, but at the same time, it does require folks to exercise that right.

This is stupid.

In 1981 the Chicago suburb of Morton Grove, Ill passed a city ordinance outlawing gun ownership within the city limits. In response, the Atlanta suburb of Kennesaw, Ga. in 1982 passed a city ordinance requiring the head of every household to own a firearm and ammo for it. Those with religious objections were exempted from the ordinance. The law was meant as a political statement and to this day has never been enforced. That may indeed be the case with this proposed Vermont law.

But Kennesaw's ordinance had some unexpected results. The best was that crime dropped by 89%. The ACLU took the city to court claiming the ordinance was unconstitutional. Kennesaw fought them and the courts ruled that the ordinance was indeed constitutional.

I think it's funny.
It is a slap in the face of the Anti Gun crowd. Turnabout is fair play.
They interpret the 2nd Amendment one way and want to register and ban, he interprets it just the opposite and wants registration for the same opposite reasons.
I doubt this is serious, probably nothing more than one of those BS forum letters that get passed around in emails. As the OP said, it was unconfirmed.

It isn't a joke, or was not. It is a 10 year old Vermont bill that failed, undoubtedly for being unconstitutional. The author is no longer in office.

I think it's funny, I love the reasoning he uses for requiring non-gun-owners to have to register and pay a fee.

If this had gone through it would have been just as bad as a gun registration. Anyone not registered as a 'non-gun owner' would be a gun owner. Food for thought if the idea ever come back.

LEO agencies should charge a tax on all households that do not own a gun. They are more likely to require 911 services.

Funny how someone in government always comes up with some way to register and fine people one way or another....while it sounds funny for the anti's to be on the other end of the stick for a change...it is just another way for big brother to step in and take control of our private lives.....whether we like it or not....I do hope this is just a joke.....will it never end....
