Default Series 80 Versus Series 90???

Ok 1911 gurus. I got a handle on Series 70 vs Series 80.....but can anyone give me the lowdown on Series 90. Some of the Colts i been looking at have series 90 on the slide. Been looking on the 1911 forums but cant find any info. Colt website wasnt much help either. What gives?

Both the Series 80 and 90 have the firing pin block safety. The big difference is the plastic parts used in the Series 90. IIRC they have a plastic trigger (the rails are metal) and a plastic mainspring housing. I think the Series 80 has the collet bushing while the 90s have the older solid barrel bushing.

Colt was undergoing some management changes during this timeframe and the higher-ups were looking at all the other manufacturers out there who were making 1911A1s. After the 1991 series, Colt started making Series 70 guns in the custom shop.

Original Series70 had the collet bushing. Technically there is no series 90

It was called the 1991. There are some fine plastic triggers out there (STI).
Kimber uses plastic MSHs too. I don't like them but see no reason to change them just because they're plastic.
