Really this sounds like two ends of the spectrum colliding. On one hand you have a guy down on his luck with the associated anxiety and frustration, and the other you have a small town police force of mall ninjas. The response from both ends was a bit overkill. It sounded like this could have been resolved by negotiation and some honest work by the county rather than D-Day 2008. Throwing this guy in jail obviously isn't going to fix the amount owed, or the guys real problems. A simple town meeting, or a local magistrate visit could have defused this issue, but that would require people to think outside of the box. This country, frankly, is stuck on stupid. |
