I think travel in Mexico is very much considered to be hazardous. Fort Bliss (maybe others also) has for several years made travel to Mexico off limits to service personnel.

It's been a few years since I've gone over in Laredo. It's just not like it used to be, and you can't pack to protect yourself...

"Juarez, a city of 1.6 million bordering El Paso, has become one of the most violent places in the world amid gangland warfare for control of its narcotics smuggling routes and local drug sales. In another unrelated attack Wednesday, gunmen forced a car to a halt near a Juarez elementary school, ordered its four male occupants against a wall and executed them."

i vote for ENOUGH!!!

I have been in the military for 11 years now, and the border towns have been "under advisory" as long as I have been in, even "off limits at times..... your statement is almost like blaming the victim.

My family has wanted to go to Mexico for a long time. We won't go.

The only things I can think of is legalize drugs, give people the death penalty for drugs, or start hanging our politicians.

The Mexico government is so corrupt as is their army nothing will change.
I have been all though Mexico and it is a wonderful land and there are some very fine people there that want this drug BS behind them as much if not more than anyone else.
Sadly in some parts of Mexico this is the only way to make a living and stay alive.
For those of you that have never been into the interior of Mexico the majority of these poor people live way below the poverty level.
Sadly the cartels offer a living but at the same time the cartels have the power and means the force people into a smugglers lifestyle.
As I have stated many times we are fighting the wrong wars.
IMO we should invade Mexico and annex Mexico into the USA.
They are dying to come to the US not just figuratively but in fact. You read about it all the time; people die in trailers while being smuggled in, ect...
This would narrow the land crossing area into the US but would increase the shore line area.
This would also allow the US to boot the cartels out of Mexico during the sweep in to over take the country.
I'll stop there cause I feel the need to put my fire suite on!

I know a little about Mexico, went a few times, the last time was 1991. I also recall while in the Corps in the 60's at Camp Pendleton for two week active duty, they "recommend" we not go to Tijuana, but many of us did. Didn't know a gal could do that with a donkey .....

Back to 1991. Went to Monterrey to play fast pitch softball. Since this was further in than the border towns, got a good look at the real Mexico. We stayed in a real swank hotel, cable TV, booze in the room, and when we tipped them $2, we were treated like Rockafellas.

Venturing out among the normal folks, I noticed that all the trinkets they sold were made in Taiwan, China, or Japan. It was soon after when Clinton pushed for the NAFTA and I thought it might be a good thing to have American trinkets there.

I just don't think there could ever really be a USA-Mexico. Our standards would lower to equalize the two countries.

I have not been to Mexico in about 7 years, was going to Progresso when I fell asleep (my friend driving) woke up at Matamoros, that trip ended with my group being chased by a few mexicans cause my friend's sister couldn't keep her mouth shut, we were close to the border ran and made it back safely without having to fight in mexico.

My wife has been asked two times to go to Laredo to intepret, the first time she asked me and I said no... the second time she told me just cause she knew it would get me all riled up...

Once they learn??? Have you been asleep for the past 10 years? (Not sure what smiley to use. Want to be funny, but the truth really pisses me off!)
