Default Stupid Questions

I have not been on TGT for too long, but it seems to me that SOME people here think it is funny to beat down new members.

The latest one that comes to mind is the lock n load guy that was asking about the best cal. size. SOME people razzed the guy so hard that he asked to have his account removed.

Now, we ALL were newbee's at one time. Why beat these people down ? Why not just not respond to the question ? Maybe someone else would like to answer it. Just cuz YOU have heard it asked a zillion times, don't mean that you have to slam the poor guy. Some newbee's don't know how to navigate the site yet.

I just think that we ALL need to give others some slack.

Rant over......for now

You are right. After being on here for quite a while, you see a lot of questions over and over. I normally don't respond to them, unless it is something I happen to be quite knowledgeable about (fairly rare) or am very interested in. It is easy to knock someone, when it takes more energy to try to help. I have to opine that, yes, maybe they should search a bit before asking some questions, but there is really no reason to be rude to them. If you don't like a post, click the back button and move on.

My hot button is to see something for sale from someone with 1 post. I saw it today, but bit my tongue and moved on.

If you alienate people for what you deem to be a silly post, you may cause them to go away. Maybe they are someone that has good knowledge or interests in other aspects of the forum. For example, I've asked some shotgun questions that may seem juvenile because I'm just really learning about them. However, I'm pretty good with handguns. If you only read my shotgun questions, you might think that I have nothing to offer......but get on the subject of handguns and I can probably help you out.........start talking about pressure/temperature instrumentation & controls and I'm really in my zone (but that's not too helpful here).

Well LockNLoad must be extremely thin skinned. There was a bit of good natured ribbing in that thread, but no one "Beat him down" and there were several very legitimate responses to the question. He (or she) never responded to any of them.

And I'll agree, we should not berate anyone for even the the most trite question. But the ,most harsh thing said was something to the effect that the question has been asked many times. Unfortunately, what was said was apparently taken wrong... happens all the time on AL Gore's Internet.

I think it is funny when someone decides to chastise someone who he feels should not have chastised someone.

Makes me think of that pot/kettle story.

Ahh, good times....

Some times what seems like a beat down is no more than having fun or attempting to solicit a response from either the primary poster or another forum member.
A new poster some times gets caught in this banter and it comes off as a put down or a beat down when it is not.
To survive on an internet forum you have to be thick skinned or your feelings will get hurt and probably stay hurt.

Yeah, "good natured ribbing" is great for people you know. This poor guy had TWO posts, and the second one was him asking to remove his account.

All I am saying is to just kinda watch WHO you are playing with, until you know they can take it.

I don't think we want him or anyone else to go to other forums and saying that TGT has a bunch of jerks. I would think we would want to keep a good rep, don't we ?

No one is "chastising" anyone. This thread IS a RANT. That is all I was doing.
