Well... let’s get back to the original story. Stan's is a good range for the price and he does not mind you picking up a little extra brass from time to time. However, I think he would probably say something if he caught you helping yourself to all the brass you could get your hands on from the local brass barrel.

I did know of one time where Stan’s pulled a range card and kicked someone off because they were shooting at the plastic barrels on the shotgun range. Stan also has closed circuit TV cameras watching over the individual ranges so that he can keep an eye on the looters… Astros might benefit from that technology.

There is another range if you don’t mind the extra travel and that is Eagle Peak Shooting Range over in Leander. They too have running water, clean restroom, and excellent facilities for the range… and I like the overhead cover that blocks the sun and rain while shooting. EPSR has more parking than Stan’s, but Astros will accommodate the most parking and shooters per day.

Please note that Eagle Peak as a clean restroom (singular) where Astros has clean restrooms (plural) to accommodate it’s Male and Female customers.

There is also a private range that is up closer to Ft. Hood, but it is limited only to IDPA and private members with a key to the padlock…. Can’t remember the name there but will try to get that for a later posting.

I wonder how many post results you'd get if you searched this site on "restrooms" posted by tomharkness.

Hmm, three posts about the restrooms at Astro...could've sworn I'd read about them more than that.

Coyotes are good... nice to have a moving target. I have heard of some shooters using a large tire where they mark a spot on the tire and then roll it out on the range. Still, I think the local ranchers like the idea of shooting the coyotes.

I was invited to hunt on an old ranchers land once and when he heard that I had let 5 or 6 coyotes go by so as not to lose the chance at a Buck, he told me that he would not invite me again... "Shot all the coyotes", he said.

Turns out they had killed one of his newborn calves. He would have been happier with me shooting the coyotes than a 12 point. Next time, the coyotes are dead meet!!
