Hello, I have been on TGT for a while now but just registered for the forums. Just wondering what the best way to make a long distance deal on a gun. It is too far to drive, and I don't want to get scammed. I recommended the seller send the gun to a local FFL, I would see it, send the payment, and have them tell the FFL to release it. Maybe there is a better/easier way? I don't want to rip anyone off, and don't want to get ripped off myself. I surely am not going to send $500 Western Union to a different country for a deal on a gun that is "too good to be true". I figured the FFL could take care of any import issues as well. Thanks.

If it sounds too good to be true..........it probably is a scam. I've never made the plunge to purchase either because the individuals I dealt with wanted their payment before shipping to my FFL. If I could find a deal as you described.....send to FFL for a look see and then send the money.....that would be a dream come true. Just remember....the seller I'm sure has reservations about shipping a weapon to an unknown to him FFL and then wait on his money. Guess I'll just stay with FTF.

I thought about that also. I was just curious if anyone had a better way. That particular deal screamed scam, so I wasn't too worried about it. I still would like to know if there was a way that protects seller and buyer equally. I personally would pay shipping both ways if I backed out, but a seller probably wouldn't believe me anyways. Thanks.

Well....there's several issues here. #1 - the FFL must be a licensed importer - not just a standard dealer. Ain't too many of 'em.
But the biggest thing is, you damned near got conned. Post a link to the ad - let's have us some fun. If there's a dozen of us emailing, offering MORE than what it's listed for....tell whoever that a buddy told you about it, but you REALLY want that gun, so you're willing to offer more than he is, etc. - just believable enough to get the scammer thinking they've REALLY hit the jackpot. But use "throw-away" email addy's guys! Now.....let's have some fun - POST THE LINK!!!! YEEEHAAAWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! |

Sorry, I don't know how to do that fancy stuff yet. Plus the ad is gone. I do have his email, it was on the ad. It is freannkes@yahoo.com. <-Hey thats cool. The ad was on TGT for a GA Precision 308 with leupold scope for $1000. Plus he misspelled Los Angelos. And it had a Leopold Mark III 4-12x riflescope. He is in Africa doing mission work with the gun apparently. It had scam written all over it. I could be wrong and missed the deal of a lifetime though. If someone out there bought it for that price I don't want to know. Have some fun.

Escrow.com is a pretty good tool for these types of transactions. They verify, then hold payment until the item is received and inspected.
I've used it in the past with great success. -admin
