Was checking out the guns for sale, came across a 10ga that had been cut down. Guy seemed proud of this... anyone explain to me why? Why would someone cut down a perfectly good gun to make it a "Bedroom Sweeper" when you can buy shorter barrel guns?. Why ruin something of value as it was. I heard about a guy who broke into a home, took a purdy shotgun, cut it down (stock and barrel) then used it in a robbery that netted him $25 bucks, he was however caught before he got very far. That I can almost understand, a dirtbag with no sense of right and wrong would obviously not be smart enough to know that he had in his hands something of more value than any dime store robbery could get him. Guess it is my rant. Why screw with something good, then try and flog it.
Any comments welcome, even negative... just be literate...LOL |

i saw that,i feel the shot gun is nice gun before it was cut down. all he has for sale is receiver and fore arm. barrel is junk.
i am getting ready to sporterize a 303 enfield, very nice rifle but i will do it in such a way as not ruin it,i bought a new monte carlo stock from cabelas,a new no drill scope base and i will keep all the origanal parts and i can go back togeather if ever needed. i tried to trade it for a hunting rifle but every body seems to think you can still buy one for a hundred dollars, wrong. not any more. I understand the need to modify a gun. If you can't afford a different gun or a new barrel, or a shorter barrel is not available for that gun, I can see modifying it. I modify my guns to serve a different purpose. I usually stick to something reversable if I can though.
Would I sell a gun permanently altered? Usually not, because you have to figure a buyer wants the original condition. I couldn't ask someone to rely on my gunsmith ability, as I am not a professional. I figure a gun that I permanently alter goes to the trash or a gunsmith when I don't need it anymore. |

I don't care what the seller does to his/her guns if I don't like them that way I won't buy it. I won't chop up my own gun but if they want to chop up their gun I'll just shake my head and wonder why.

Well, Big Country that is about where I sit, however rather than shake my head and wonder why.. I am asking. Possibly he has a good reason that I just cannot figure out. But for all I know about home defense and lawyers man o man would I not want to be the guy pulling the trigger and missing then have to deal with the pissed off invader and his friends still in my home. Or I get lucky and blow the guy away and scare off his friends, get my day in court to find his poor mothers lawyer painting me as a blood thirsty killer who set a trap and enticed her just found the right path child who was providing for his kiddies and having a room full of .... vote her a nice settlement. Honestly, I am looking for answers here.

Well, curiosity got the better of me so I asked. First response was well.. less than enlightining. However here is the second
"Personally I have a 1911 45 acp on my nightstand and 7 shot riot pump 12 on thewayto my and the safe,so i'm fairly safe and responsible. I am a Texan born and raised, here we do things our way.I'm a product of the sixties and grew up shooting for enjoyment and food One day at the gun show[WE ENJOY THOSE} This sawed off 10 gauge caught my eye as I was leaving. I made adeal with the individual and got a 5 pack of shells and went to the country {where we shoot guns} blasted it a few times and locked it in my safe. Now should I be even respond to your rants? Why not I'm a TEXAN Don't know bout your heritage so if you are not interested in the 10 do not bother me. Thank you very much of TEXAS" Still don't understand, I own a number of guns, have hunted for food and trophy, visit a gun show at least once every other month. Still, why would you have/use a gun that would have the lawyer on the other side of the table to you counting up his big fee and smiling over at you like a shark checking out a meal. Oh well, guess he answered my questions, obviously its a Texan thing. Can anyone else help. Or should I just take MrSeatle's advice... TY All Last edited by CanTex; 10-25-2009 at 09:03 PM. I don't get worked up over what other people do with their own money/property if it doesn't affect me and wouldn't have given you the courtesy of a reply if you weren't interested in purchasing the gun, just arguing and wasting my time.
You should edit his name out of your post. When he replied to your emails did you make him aware you intended to post them verbatim on a public forum? |

I think that for the most part, there isn't a single modification that you can make to any firearm that a really good lawyer can't turn around on you if they want. "Well, do you deny that you put those Hogue grips on your gun so that you can handle it better, making you a better KILLER..." While a rediculous example, valid nonetheless. People having been sawing the barrels on their shotguns for years and the fact that lawyers may try to hang them over it isn't going to change that. While I will agree that you can try and buy a new barrel vs cutting it, not everyone can/desires to do so and don't see it as a problem. Heck, I've considered chopping the end of mine instead of buying a new barrel. The only thing that stops me is that I know that I'll want to have the 26" barrel regardless so will only need to buy another...lol...figures. If it looks like a good gun, and I research and find that I can easily replace the barrel and purchase the gun for less than what it would cost to obtain that particular gun new, then I would buy, otherwise I would ignore it and keep looking elsewhere.

Ty all for the input. I did remove his name as suggested, should have thought of that myself before posting. I was interested in purchasing, I also did make an offer on the gun with the intent of putting on a new barrel. Offer was not accepted. Hope he does get a sale and hope that person returns it to correct barrel length. That was my intent should he have accepted my offer.
