My point being that the calliber used was not effective. I'm going with .45 acp.

Another thing to consider is they were carrying FMJ ammo as you can't carry HP's on a military base because it is against the Geneva convention. so even a 45 acp would likely go threw him with the same effect that the 9mm or .40 would have had. Just something I didn't see mentioned anywhere else in this thread.

Good point BC also I would like to add before the big caliber discussion occurs, shot placement is the key and I know for a fact that the civilian police on base are not held to a higher standard of marksmanship than any other officer of the law. As alot of people know leos are rarely gun gurus and rarely fire ther duty weapon outside of qual day. I wish they would. You would figure you would want to master all the tools of your craft whatever it may be.

I would be VERY surprised if base security wasn’t armed with modern defensive ammunition over FMJ. If I’m not mistaken, the attendees at the Hague Peace Conference adopted rules banning the use of expanding bullets in conventional warfare, the US rejected this. The US did agree at the second Hague Peace Conference to abstain from using ammunition “designed to cause unnecessary suffering” or something to that effect. I don’t believe the Geneva Convention mentioned it at all. MP’s aren’t exactly in combat here in the US anyway.

All I know is that in my business when we do things like the gates at military bases we are almost always required to replace our hollow point ammunition with full metal jackets. I have never personally worked one of these sites but I have met some folks who have and it was brought up in my commission class. I could be wrong but last I checked this was the case. Regardless of the type of ammo used I could probably find incidents where sober attackers were shot with a 45 acp 4 or 5 times and then being taken down with a shot gun blast from another officer/involved person and I could probably find an incident or 3 where an attacker was stopped with a single .40 or 9mm shot. Hell for that matter I could probably find incident of attackers being stopped with a hit or 2 from a 22. So shot placement really is the key regardless of the ammo being carried.
P.S codygjohnson, I'm not trying to discredit you or your point of view I'm interested now to know exactly what they carry in their pistols I'm going to ask a buddy of mine who works on Ft. Hood to find out for me as he can walk up and ask and I'd get detained. LOL! I'll look other places to I'll post my findings.

I lust talked to a friend of mine about it that recently came back from a tour in Iraq as an MP. He told me that in Iraq, they used “government issue 9mm” I asked if it was FMJ? He said, “I don’t know, copper round nose.” He said he thinks his counterparts back here use “some kinda’ commercial hollow points”

I have extreme confidence that he’s going tol make one hell of a LEO... I don’t give that too much credit, but it’s a start I suppose. I'd like to know for sure as well. If they have some kind of stupid red tape rule holding up using a decent ammo for security, it needs to be brought to light.

I'm gonna call my buddy tonight. He is stationed at Ft. Drum. Maybe he can get some answers.

That's interesting. I just assumed that the civilian LEO would not be required to abide by Geneva convention regulations. But Big seems to have some insight into that.

Without knowing where the hits were how do you come to that conclusion?

Military standard ammo is FMJ, Geneva conventions prevent the use of HP ammo...
