Hell for that matter I could probably find incident of attackers being stopped with a hit or 2 from a 22. So shot placement really is the key regardless of the ammo being carried.
I think this pretty much is the most important part of the discussion. If you can guarantee a bullseye on every shot, no matter the circumstance, then sure a hollow point 45 is better than 9mm FMJ. But when rounds are flying, a hit is a hit and caliber is less important than placement.

Even funnier now when you consider it appears that not only did she not hit him 4 times, but did not even hit him at all!

So the MPs and the civilian police on base are using FMJ's. Well I guess that pretty well sums up that part of the discussion.

FMJ ammunition is acceptable for military use by the countries that signed the Hague Convention of 1899, which prohibits the use of hollow-point or expanding bullets in war between the countries which signed that agreement. It is often incorrectly stated that the prohibition is part of the Geneva Conventions. It is also a common misconception that full metal jacket bullets are specifically required by the Hague Convention; they are not.

The military snipers use HP's because of the ballistics, correct? At least that is what I read somewhere (no real experience).

I believe the Geneva Convention only covers "combat". But I may be wrong. Never cared much for the Geneva Convention personally. It only applied to the "good" guys. The "bad" guys did and do whatever they want.

Geneva is sort of like gun control, it only helps the "bad" guys.

Except for a headshot, pistols are relatively ineffective. All things being considered, I'd rather have a rifle. A tenth or couple tenths of an inch in overall expanded diameter of pistol rounds (the classic 9 vs 45 debate) won't make nearly as much of a difference as a projectile traveling 1000-1500fps FASTER.

22, 380, 9, 40, 45 FMJ or HP or JHP it does not matter, just keep shooting till the threat stops moving.

Shot placement is critical in any situation. Unfortunately in the heat of battle, most shooters get so engrossed with the situation that they fail to even see their sights. I have discussed this with many cops I know and most that have been in a shooting situation say all they can remember is the muzzle of the other guy's weapon. Some hollow point ammo on the market is barely functional when the bad guy is wearing heavy clothes or light body armor. FMJ is a better choice unless you are in a crowd. I read a great quotation in a gun magazine a few months ago. The writer said "a pistol is a good weapon to use until you can fight your way to a rifle". A .22 long rifle cartridge is fatal in a head shot. It usually has just enough energy to enter the skull and then race around the inside of the skull. I am 62 years old and have never had any reason to use deadly force and I hope it stays that way.

The Geneva Convention mentions nothing about ammo.
