Supply and demand. I've got 20k primers on hand, another 12k rounds loaded, and 20k primers on order. You don't have any? That's a shame - but not my fault nor my problem. When I saw the election results, I started huntin' down a reloading rig - found one, and got back into reloading. I bought 30k primers before the end of January just to "play it safe". Bought 40k bullets as well - some of them are still trickling in.
Thing is....you can't buy my primers at ANY price - period. After watching the latest games, I've made up my mind that I will NEVER have less than 15k primers on hand at any given time (and yeah - I've got the powder ta match it). Now....tell me - how many folks out there have aggressively hunted their components? I can promise you I did - and I have at least 25 sources tucked away for primers, sorted by average pricing, etc. Took many a night researchin' and diggin - and no, I don't share that information readily either. Too many "friends" have shown up at my doorstep ready to "borrow" my loader AND my supplies. The loader they're welcome to - but they best bring their OWN supplies. Now I see folks complaining about "hoarders" - isn't that kinda like someone that becomes a vegetarian because they can't hunt worth a damn? The guys that are rippin' folks on Gunbroker and such - well, they found a source of supply, and are reaping the benefits of their work and investment. Don't like it? Just don't buy it. If it don't pay off, they'll stop - and I hope they get stuck with a TON of inventory they can't sell - but that'll be the market punishing them, not some stupid government intervention! |

Primer's have been non-existent in stores forever it seems like, and I have to agree that its getting ridiculous. I think the anti-gun people are the ones going out and hoarding the primers. Not that they even know what they're for, but just to keep the gun people from being able to reload and shoot is they're main focus I think. There was a guy up here in Idaho a couple months ago, that bought about $10k in reloading, ammo, bullets, primers, etc and then thought he'd be cool and try to sell it all at the gun show the following weekend. Funny, how he left the gun show with the same stuff he came in with, cause pretty much everyone that goes to Cabelas, must have been in the store when that guy came in and bought everything.
BTW, I just picked up 6 boxes of 9mm, 2 boxes of .40S&W, and a box of .45ACP yesterday at Cabelas. I was completely out of 9mm, and pretty low on .40S&W, and .45ACP. Still need to find some more .45 Colt though. |

I don't get the whinin either.
I don't keep as much on hand as Texasredneck, but I have enough to go shooting when I want to and to renew the ammo count I used. As far as reloading supplies, I only frequent suppliers who limit the number of primers that they sell to a customer. Believe it or not, that means they pretty much always have primers. With brass, I never come back from the range with less brass than I took, and I only buy bullets in bulk (the cheap lead ones make the same size holes in the paper as the jacketed ones). The complaints I hear and read, sound like the complaints about the hardware store that was out of plywood the day before a hurricane hits. ![]() If you're not bright enough to plan ahead, take your Darwin Award and go home.

LOL
I have to. Many of my rifles use ammunition that is BERDAN primed. Removing the primers isn't that difficult, it's finding berdan primers to replace them with that is the hard part. Oh, and yeah. Ammo prices have been pretty steep at times.... ......just try to "buy it cheap, and stack it deep". Don't think that I have a few tens of thousands of rounds stocked up either. Deals are around, they're just hard to spot. |
