It does not take much to see through the video below, however it and the online retailer it is produced by and intended to drive business to can be informational. Thought it might be helpful for anyone who wants to save a few dollars by getting a stamp and making their own suppressor. I am guessing you can save a few hundred dollars by going this route if you are in possession of some basic tools, like to make things instead of buy them and pays close attention to details. Of course if only making the worlds most expensive solvent trap, you don't have to worry about most of that.

If any of you guys are on SilencerTalk I would be interested to know how they rate against other suppliers.

This sorta reminds me of the 70's and early 80's where you could buy all the parts but one for making your own suppressor/silencer at a vendors booth at the gun shows, the other part was usually a couple of tables away with an totally unrelated vendor.

Here is a link the page with their ultra bundle, includes a flash light tube without the cutout for the switch and other parts for $170. Not sure if it is big enough to handle a rifle caliber (interested in opinions of that, specifically 5.56mm) if you made it into one. I think it would be an interesting project if done within the letter of the law.

Not real sure how that PVC part will hold up to hot gases.....................errrrrr solvents, yeah that is it, solvents glad that is not needed with some of the kits.

So it's $100-$170 for a full kit.

If you do want to form 1 and register it as a build you will only save about $100 over a rimfire cam that will probably work better.

I guess you could get it quicker due to being able to E-file though.


I'd rather get a real one.


(Yes, I get that doe will think they are uber prepared for the apocalypse by having their mag light conversion kit handy, that might or might not work)

I like SD tactical's stuff myself. From the reviews I have read they seem to work well enough to bring the sound levels of a 9mm or 45 to hearing safe.

on the SD tactical they show them using it on a 308.

someone is selling a ATF "legal" registered adapter for an oil filter suppressor that you get a stamp for and it is supposed to be legal.

my question is, what happens when the oil filter wears out? you can't legally replace it with a different filter under ATF rules right?

I not what part is classified at the wiper.

I bought one. Keeps me from spotting up the living room carpet with dirty bore solvents. That cause sterility.

Napa oil filter. For an old school Chevy 350? There's a short filter and a long filter(used on farm equipment).

My understanding is the adapter is the part that needs the stamp. I can't say if the filter wears out. Mines too full of bore solvent to tell. If I was to take a 'guess'....22lr doesn't wear out the filter. At all. I suppose if it got dirty. You could wash the crud out the filter with white gas? Spray the inside with wd40 or pour a little bit of motor oil in it?

Again, this is all a guess. Another guess....those oil filter suppressors are suppose to be almost Hollywood quiet. But I would have no idea. Only from what I read.

From what I have been told and read, the oil filter silencers are less than perfect. First they can not find a decent filter, and the paper media does not hold up to many shots. They work for a short time then lose effectiveness, you may get debris back in your face from the holes in the filter that the little adapter does not cover up and they seem to be dirtier for your gun. If someone knew of a all metal filter, maybe a commercial one, that might work better longer.

As far as changing out the filter, I have read different views, some say no issue just change it, others say you could be in trouble if caught doing that. If I ever register one, I will crush the filter body before replacing it with a fresh one so that there is zero chance of having components for two suppressors on hand with only one stamp. Lots of grey areas on this one.

What I like about the ideas above, is the opportunity to get a reasonably priced, home-built, suppressor that performs adequately for hearing safe shooting without ear protection. The big plus is not needing a machine shop to make it in.

the thing with oil filter suppressors is forget trying to see the sights

My understanding is you have to have a SOT replace the filter if you do it yourself its illegal not that it could be proven.

I have 2 un fired SD tactical flashlight suppressors and I am happy with the quality.
I also have 2 homemade suppressors I have yet to fire LOL. I have time at work just no time to play.

So, I went to SD Tactical's site and priced what it would take to make a .22LR suppressor.



So, for about $120, plus the $200 tax stamp and a bit of time with a drill press you could have a pretty decent .22LR suppressor.

Did like the fact they are addressing the baffle issue, as the other videos posted did not go into reforming them into a more desirable and effective shape.
