    Gunz are icky.
For discussions sake: MJ legalizing movement manages to get Devil's Lettuce legal here in Texas(and other states).
My question is directed towards employment post legalization.
Many companies and business owner are always saying they can't find job candidates that can pass a drug screen.
After MJ becomes legal this issue will assuredly increase.

Do you think there will be an post MJ employment bonanza for older workers with skills that do not partake?

I have a son that lives in Colorado. He says that the drug screen part has become an issue there. No word on the full employment for old folks part however.

Yep. Figured it would become a problem.
Businesses can set their employment rules.
Dopers can't pass. Business can't get workers.
Businesses maybe extend a hand to older workers.
Older workers can decide yes or no to continue working.
Older workers can say Sure I'll keep working for 3 times what you were paying. LoL

As long as it does not interfere with SS payments maybe. I do not plan on retiring. I am sure when I get cranky enough I will be retired.

I think Texas will be one of the last States to legalize. Which means we won't see a huge influx of stoners like CO did, and the usage of MJ won't change that much. I don't know anyone who abstains because it is illegal.

I worked at one location & this younger dude on the job told me straight up he can't work without it. He offered me up advice & dope for my back pain that I declined. Told him I wasn't going to get fired over failing a drug test after all my years. Told him at my age getting rid of my insure & pay rate could afford them 6 more part time stooges.

He use to break out his vaporizerright on the job. Once I rode with him for lunch & his truck was loaded with different paraphernalia. Told him I was riding in a truck with all that shit in plain sight either.

I work for a company that has a yard in Colorado, and 2 in California. We don’t have any bigger issues hiring people there than in West Texas. We do urinalysis for current employees and hair follicle testing for new hires. We already have a 65% failure rate for all new hires.

Employment post legalization is a topic close to aviation in which the answer is ‘it depends’.

If you’re in a industry that’s regulated by any federal agency, or party to any federal contract, so long as the feds maintain current policies, one will be subject to pre-employment and random drug screenings.

Then, if a company isn’t self-insured, the insurer gets a say in testing policies.

Does that mean older workers will suddenly be at full employment?

Not really. But it gives you industries to focus on; many a Fed LEO goes into security consulting at 56; many an airline pilot goes from revenue employee to contract instructor at 66.

Just got to find the right spaces to make your place.

The way I see it, I could care less what drugs a person does on their own time, in their own space. Once in the workplace or in my personal space though, I care deeply. In the event certain mind altering substances are deemed legally acceptable, I am happy Texas is still a right to work state. They can't or won't work to the requirements of the position? Well, I have the right to terminate them.

I don’t get how people think they can show up for work high if it’s legal in their state.

Booze is also legal, show up drunk and see what happens.

I worked with that guy too. I was asked to go in to work @ 4:00 am on my day off. I get their & then the drunk shows up. The took him straight to the restroom for urine the upstairs for a breathalyzer. When they asked him when he had his last drink it was in the parking lot before he walked in. (He always acted suspicious when drinking off his liter bottle of Aquafina because it was vodka.) They told him he was suspended & to wait for a cab they called him. He left before the cab in his own truck. The company was ready to fire others for letting him leave, because of liability. He was crazy over the limit when he showed up that morning.

Now that CBD oil is such a massive fad, I wonder if ingested will test results possibly show positive for mj use?

I know the amount of thc is touted is suppose to show zero or no more than 3%, thus can be sold legally, but what if the testing is precise and says you are an mj user?

Me, I'm staying away from mj and CBD oil in all it's varieties from the smoking stuff to eating to rubbing on, but I'll drink a beer (or 2) at home and not drive.

Yep, I'm quite saintly I is..........

I try to never state any opinions on this subject because I'm a massive hypocrite.

I've said many times in the past that I've never worked a job that required a drug test and I never will. On the other hand, if I were a good enough shooter to make the U.S. Olympic team, I'd be subject to random urine and blood tests at all times. They can show up at my door, unannounced, at any time. I would cheerfully comply.

I guess it all depends on your priorities.

I wouldn't call that hypocritical at all. You're not choosing for anyone but yourself how your personal information would be collected and handled.

For the job, you are choosing to only work for a company that uses the more direct approach to whether or not you're employed - performance. For the competition, you're willing to comply with requirements that aim to prove the competition is fair.

It's like any contract IMHO. If you don't agree to a clause, you have two simple choices - amend or don't sign.

    Toddnj,

    Thank you.

It would seem that there is 'some' risk.

    I wouldn't risk it.

I value my TLC more than any cb-whatever oil benefit.
