My most prized possessions are my grandpa's marlin 30-30 with a 1.5x weaver, my uncle's M1 garand, and my dad's combat commander lw.

I only shoot the 30-30 and M1 about once a year, but the commander gets exercise at least once a month to the tune of at least 100 rounds. The commander is still my favorite pistol for the El Presidente and Tactical El Presidente drills.

I have my mom's Nylon 66 AB, my father's M1 carbine, and my grandfather's M12 Winchester shotgun. I cherish them more than I can say.

I also have no one to pass them down to. :(

That stinks, buddy - perhaps a favorite niece/nephew? Most of mine will go directly to the kids - they can dispense them to THEIR kids as they see fit. Each of my grandkids gets a Henry 22 LA for their 12th Christmas, and my oldest grandson got a Remington 30-06 SA for his "going-away" gift just before he left for Army basic training last month. His dad is holding it for him, my hope is that he'll be stationed someplace that he'll be able to use it to do some hunting.....and maybe invite his grandpa to come join him.....lol

I'm seriously lacking in extended family to which I have any attachment.
    • Nieces or nephews?
      • I don't have any of those.
    • First cousins?
      • On my mom's side, they're older than I am. I'm pretty sure that anything I left any of them would, in their mind, immediately be valued in terms of how many cases of beer they can get for it.
      • On my dad's side, there are three possibles but that's going by memory. I've haven't seen any of them in 40+ years because when my dad died that entire family ghosted us.
    • First cousins once removed?
      • On mom's side of the family, it's tough to keep track of which ones aren't in jail at any particular time. No, wait. I take that back. Most of 'em are dead of one sort of overdose or another.
      • Dad's side is a mystery.
It's a conundrum, all right. Not a big one but one I'll have to address, eventually.

Who knows? Maybe someday they'll be the door prizes at a TGT family reunion. :)

Those are situations I always hate to see - when someone passes without heirs/friends to bequeath those things that meant so much to them. Over the years, I've picked up my fair share of guns inherited by non-gun folks, usually for whatever price I offered, with NO concern as to their value or heritage. The .45 below was purchased from the estate of a local USAF competition shooter - it was his prized match gun - a highly-customized 1963 View attachment 178951 Colt Civilian. Several years later, I heard from one of his old shooting buddies that had seen a picture I'd shared onto a website - he immediately recognized the gun, and was upset because he'd tried to buy it from the estate right after he passed. For whatever reason, I just couldn't bring myself to part with it - I felt that it would have cheapened his legacy - so it resides in my safe, where it'll likely one day go to one of the kids, all of whom enjoy shooting.
