    The Louis Seecamp double-action conversion.

Seecamp was a noted designer, retiring from O.F. Mossberg after years of service, and while he did many custom 1911s and was a respected gunsmith, the double-action conversion of the 1911 is what he is best remembered for. Full article

I guess I don't see the benefit...especially since having the hammer down on one in the chamber is a bad idea with an 1911...and you'd have to manually de-cock it, which risks an accidental discharge if there's a chambered round also.

Colt built and marketed it as the Double Eagle. For a minute...

A Waco gun store had a stainless steel version in .45ACP that I lusted for, but remained too expensive for me.....

Decades later, Ian from Forgotten Weapons educated me on the failings of that gun. Glad I saved my money....

Trigger obviously is a kludge. Looks like I made it with an angle grinder while riding a unicycle in those photos.

I'd imagine the original motivating force would have been to secure Police contracts/ meet a spec requirement.
