For you guys that fry turkeys how many people will a 12 LB turkey feed?
Last weekend i picked up two 12 lb turkeys and fed 8 people with a little left over.
To calculate my portion I figured half the weight lost during cooking which comes to 12 lbs of cooked meat. Figure half is dark meat so maybe 6 lbs of white meat for 8 people. We should have had plenty with some left over but it was all gone. I know fried turkey is good but I think something else is going on. Maybe they are injecting more water into the birds. Giblets and neck don't weigh that much do they? Maybe my family and guests are pigs.
    What's going on?
    Thanks.

My 14 lb gobler fed 15 miniature Asian people at the in-law's... That's a bad example though, they don't eat very much. Still had enough to make a sandwich on Friday. Water content in poulty is waaaaay high. Hams too, depending on what you get.

I brine my turkeys before I fry them. I usually get a 12-14lb bird and after brining it probably weighs in 2-3lbs heavier. its meant for 10-12 people as well.

If you figure...2 legs, one person each. two thighs, about 3 people. two breasts, 4-5 people. two wings, 1 person. thats about 11 people.
