Rode some today and when I went to back it in, it started sputtering and backfired. It's never done that before, no issues in forward either.

Now that the racks are remounted, I don't think it's too much tan. More importantly, I don't give a crap

No fuel additives other than Marvel Mystery oil. Standard 87 octane and the engine was at full temp. In fact, when I turned it off the cooling fan came on. It did the sputtering/backfire only the one time and I really haven't worked on it much since I got it running. Despite my initial cleaning, I see more gunk has dislodged and is moving around in the gas tank so the tank, lines, and maybe the carb need some attention.

Some of y'all gave me crap (and I'm ok with that ;) ) for buying it but just remember, the good thing about spending only 100 bucks for an ATV is that if it works, Hey, that's a great day! And if it doesn't, yuh just tinker with it a little more. Either way it's all good :shades:

Hey, I thought these 4x4 ATVs were NEVER supposed to get stuck!!!

Went out for a little ride this afternoon and WHAM O, you guessed it.

    Last time I buy a $100 4-wheeler. :green:

Hell no they're not bald! They slung mud all over my shnasty! lol

It weren't no thang. I hadn't even started it in about 3 weeks, got home a little early and decided to go. I may have been on private property but it intermingles with a power line easement. Anyway, crossing a deep rut/washout at an angle, I stuffed the front right. I tried to power through it but the FR wasn't turning and didn't appear to be trying. The other 3 were blowing n going ... got the muddy clothes to prove it.

Long story short, I dug out in front of the tire and off I go! It was a good ride :)

Last time I ran the ATV it was running rough to barely, like it was fuel starved. I just cleaned a lot of debris out the tank and the carb, especially the float bowl / reserve section. It will fire with starter fluid but it won't run more than a couple of seconds. Any advice is appreciated.

Can someone tell me what the unused line tap is for? You can see it is somewhat dirty inside, I don't have any leftover lines laying around like I forgot them and I can't find another tap it may have been linked to.

With just that pic I would assume that's the overflow. It should be attached to a line so if is does start draining gas it will go out the line to the ground instead of all over your 4 wheeler.

If it will start with fluid then you know it's a fuel problem. Best guess is the float valve is stuck and isn't allowing gas into the carb. Sounds like it's rebuild time.

I agree with bones. You should put a hose on it. It could shoot gas all over your engine. That's never good.

I make sure to turn off the gas and run it out of the system when I won't be riding for a while. Makes life easier next time I want to ride.

I showed the pictures at the bike shop and he said it is a vent line. It is supposed to have tubing hanging down so when you go thru water it doesn't pour in, which begs the question why didn't they angle the tap down to begin with.
