I am new to reloading and started with 9MM since that is what I shoot the most. Tried Power Pistol and Tite Group based on some internet searches. What do you use for target loads (124gr. FMJ or CMJ) and self defense (124 gr. Speer GDHP or other JHP)?
Probably not a good idea to reload SD rounds. Attorney might have a field day with you. "What did you shoot the intruder with ?" "I made my own ammo." "What, factory ammo is not good enough ? You need to make DEADLIER ammo ?"
You get the general idea. Could leave you open to lots of legal issues you don't need.
You can do whatever you wish, but IMO, when they ask me what I use, I will say, " I use what LEO's use." If it is good enough for LEO' it is good enough for me.
Good point, I have a stash of Speer factory loaded ammo for personal defense. I was thinking about the distant future when they are all gone. (I will rethink that now.) Also, it might be good to make some "clones" so I can practice with something close to the real thing - but much cheaper.
Have used Bullseye, Titegroup, and W231 for my 9mm 115 gr. Really liked the Titegroup but like Okierifleman all I use now is W231...got a good deal on a 4 lb can when powder was in short supply in my area. Powder is plentiful now but you can't find primers.
+1I switched from Unique to Power Pistol in everything, and havent looked back. Burns so much cleaner and gives me the power I want without all of the muzzle flash that Unique produces.
Sounds like a good idea to use those bullets for practice. You could use them out in the woods, for animal defense. ( Animals don't have real good attorneys ! )
