I have temporarily suspended my search for the elusive DW CBOB, I swear it would be easier to capture a bigfoot than find one of those pistols! Anyway I decided to just have one of my 1911's converted.

After-Bobtailed, thin grips, two-tone finish, new beavertail (hated that Colt "ducktail") and a STI short trigger

I used to think bobtails were a passing fad, even a gimmick but this one feels so darn good in my hand I may get ALL my 1911's bobtailed now;)

One of these days, I'll have to figure out what people mean by beavertail, bobtail, or GI.\

    PS Very nice looking gun.

If I may be so nosy, what did it set you back? I've been thinking about getting the mainspring housing bobtailed.

The two tone looks good also, but I think I would prefer the looks of the wood grips on it.

Ah, so bobtailing a lightweight is ok then? I remember that question coming up in another forum but never waited around for the answer.

What finish is in the receiver? Looks nice :)

Beavertail is a replacement grip safety for the standard one on the original 1911s. It was developed to prevent hammer bite which is when the hammer is recocked under recoil and pinches the flesh between the thumb and forfinger usually drawing blood. Later they were modified to allow a higher grip aiding in pointing the gun, faster target aquisition

Bobtail is cutting the bottom rear of the magwell at about 35 degrees and rounding it. Its purpose is mainly to aid in concealment although they do feel good in the hand,.

GI is what the original Colts looked like. I.E the Government model.

I could live with that. I need to check with the guy who lives near me and see what he charges. I'm really thinking I want a bobtail.
