So I pulled up to the gas station to do my morning fillup and my jaw nearly dropped.

Can't believe gas is getting this cheap again, hopefully this is not a fluke and we never see gas over 3 bucks a gallon again (I know it's probably a fools hope but I can dream right?).

Considering Texas is Oil and Gas (esp in Houston), low gas prices are generally not good for "US", of the 3 people I personally know on this board, we're all in O&G

So, was the Texas economy faltering when oil was cheap?

    Quick search:

2009 prices were low. I was out of work as well 1800+ employees got laid off from a big O&G co, think zx9r was also out of a job

339k people lost jobs and unemployment was at an all time high in Tx

How would that relate to unemployment numbers of 4.5% in 1998?

Looking to see if other factors were involved and have no idea what the O&G industry was doing at that time. Just trying to see if gas prices are really directly correlated to Texas employment numbers and how it would relate to the Texas economy vs consumer spending in other areas allowed by a higher amount of disposable income.

^^that may sound smarter or dumber than I really am, depending on how well it was worded.
