Being of Mexican descent myself, my loyalties lie with the nation I grew up in and for which my father fought for during WWII.

If the people of Mexico don't like that, well then tough.

Woah woah woah! Chill out, guys.

"68.8 percent of respondents in Mexico said that it should be to Mexico, while only 19.7 percent said it should be to the United States. Another 11.5 percent of respondents said they were not sure."

They were asking real Mexicans, not the hyphenated kind that are actually Americans. Who the hell cares what people across the border think?

Seriously - you want to give credence to the opinions of the populace of a third-world nation? I don't care what people who live in a perpetual shithole think because it's their fault they live in a shithole!

I'm sure there are many legal residents, naturalized citizens and even some truly natural born citizens that feel that way.

That said, there are many immigrants (legal) who truly treasure what they have achieved in becoming United States citizensand thus Americans. My daughter in law is naturalized, her parents are still green card holders, but, they have followed the RULES and are very intolerant of those who see to cheat and look for a "path to citizenship".

The crippling afflictions that have impacted our country come from beliefs in "multi-cultural" ideas and rejection of the "melting pot". The only way to bring recent arrivals into our culture is to reach out to them and make them welcome. We all have our own ethic roots and many honor those roots at holiday time through ceremony, decoration, food preparation and other observations. Honoring your heritage is not a bad thing... It is actually a good thing, when put in the context of your devotion and allegience to your country of residence.

no offense to any true American Mexicans.

I'm Mexican American and don't like Mexicans, there or here, saying something about my loyalty. As a kid, we had to hear that crap from them all the time. You're a whitey, you can't speak Spanish, you penis is larger than mine, etc..

If an American wants to move to Mexico and be loyal to them, I'm okay with it so long as it's Sean Penn, Michael Moore, or any other jackass. If my kid did it, I'd have a problem with it.

Now if this person moves there, lays down roots there, has kids there, then you can't really blame them for changing sides. I would feel foolishish telling them they had to be loyal to America.

    Well said DC!!
    Heres my beef!
Some one comes to my country and reaps its benefits, they live here and call it home and then they want to be loyal to the country they left while enjoying the freedom and opportunities of my country - screw them and get the hell out.

I don't give a rats ass what country they are from!!!!

Change your own country, make it a better place to live. Don't come here and live the American dream and not be loyal to the country that provided that dream and allowed that dream to become a reliability!

Please let me be clear I lived in a mixed race household so we speak of problems like this frequently,my concern is as a nation of over 300 million with 1/3 foreign born those that come and become citizens should in my mind be considered Americans first and their culture secondary because as we grow we're fragmenting beyond belief and the end results can't be good.

I have relatives of Mexican decent 2nd generation that believe their loyalties should be Mexico first because if they not they lose their identity or culture I simply do not get it as I view them as Americans. Perhaps someone can enlighten me here because If I were to move to Spain being upset with the USA then my loyalties would be with Spain, am I wrong.??

While I understand we're talking country vs culture it is still confusing.

Very good point and IMO culture and heritage are not the same.
When you come to a land and accept it as your home you also accept IMO the culture and it becomes a part of you as well but your heritage is what matters and should be guarded and held close to the heart; although this is a personal issue and has no direct bearing on the culture you have chosen to live in and accept.
Once you have chosen and accepted that culture you owe that culture and country your loyalty IMO!

just a thought but what if the U.S. and mexico annexed make it one big country, it would solve most of the illegal immigration problem and im sure we could do something about the drug cartel problems, more land and natural resources. what are your thoughts about this?

Have thought that for years. IIRC, when America was trying to buy the west from Mexico, two senators brought up invading and conquering. The idea didn't catch on. Mexico and the people would have been much better off.

Toss Guatemala and Belize in for good measure and a much smaller border.
