I keep scouring the interweb to find one used/discounted, but they are just AWOL...Shouldn't I expect to see one pop at least occasionally? I just cannot afford a new one right now, but if the price was right on a used one, I think I could slide it by the wife. Of all the GI replicas out there, theirs seems to be the best compromise between quality/price, but NOBODY seems to want to part with theirs...DANG

Most people i know and like myself started out with their Springfield GI model 1911. And in doing so its our first 1911 and we don't get rid of them.

I hear ya know, im dying to pickup another so i can practicing some gun smithing. Their damn hard to find.

Local shop has "HIGH Standard" 1911's on sale for 439 right now... im considering one.

You may want to also look at a Rock Island GI. I've seen them priced as low as $375. I have one as well as the compact and love both of them.

Last time I was at the Bullet Trap in Plano, They had one for $475 new. The used ones I've seen have been priced way out of line, $500-$700. Shop around, They are out there.

Check these websites daily and you should be able to find one for around $450 - $500 shipped to you. Maybe even snag a stainless one or a package deal.

I have never sold any Springfield. You don't let good friends go.

I agree, plus I suspect for the price, a lot of folks buy them when they see them.....I didn't go looking for one, but when I saw one, I bought it. If I ever see another one, it'll be gone too.

    Good Luck in your search.

My guess is that most who buy them have great luck with the Springer GI and would never sell the pistol.

I know after 6 years with mine....forget it....I'll never sell it!

For a basic 1911, it is very accurate and totally reliable. A trouble free basic 1911 that is very well made. That has been my expereince with the GI and perusing the 1911 forums, I was NOT the only one.

So there you have it...its a great shooter and most buyers don't want to part with them. That ought to tell you volumes about the pistol....now...go get one! LOL

I really want to. I want to dump my Kimber, and get one, but I'd like to get out of the Kimber as much as I can before getting a Springfield. I feel cheated by Kimber...

McBride's in Austin is listing them for 525.00 NIB. I'm hoping to pick a 4" up for a bike gun sometime in the not to distant future.

I had a GI, it was accurate, but I traded up for a SA SS Loaded Champ. All the features you'll add to a GI later.

I don't really want to "add on" to one, I want a good replica of the WWII sidearm. I'm collecting a WWII arsenal, and it's what I'm missing at the moment.

Just curious here.........what Model Kimber do you currently have and how do you feel cheated........cost or performance? Or others.

Because shortly after buying it, they abandoned the external extractor models, and switched back to internal extractors, making my $1000 pistol little more than an expensive curiosity. Do not get me wrong, it's a fine pistol operationally, but as one that should keep it's value, it's shot, no pun intended. Well, small pun intended. Now, blame falls on me, because I did not do my homework, but, at the time I bought it, I was still learning about 1911's, and frankly, it looked cool as hell under the glass where I bought it. I paid no attention to that little claw on the side...

Another thing. I take care of my firearms, and I've never ever let one rust. However, the carbon steel barrel on that Kimber has a fingerprint-shaped mark on it, and after doing research (after panicking of course), I found that many Kimbers suffered from the same flaw. I still shoot it, it shoots like a champ, so performance wise I cannot complain.

However, I always tend towards purism in whatever endeavours I indulge in, and I'm becoming a 1911 purist, and it bothers me about the extractor issue. I intend this in no way to impugn Kimber Corp., I am sure they, in large part, produce fine pistols. I see them in articles, in picture posts on bulletin boards such as this one, and other locations, and the new Kimbers look great. But then it reminds me of mine, and I don't have one like theirs...
