Well, it's getting to that time in life to start looking towards thoughts of retirement. Not necessarily that I want to yet, but just trying to look at the options and where we're at. Having been through 2 divorces, I honestly figured I'd be doing good to be able to retire at 67.
Talked with my broker today, reviewed where we're at and where we want to be income-wise at retirement. The past year, we've been bustin' it getting things paid off, and puttin' extra away for retirement. I dang near fainted when he looked at me and said - "Your option - you'll have your retirement income goals met or surpassed in 4-5 years!" Geez - we're talkin' age 59/60 - an' let's just say that our retirement income goals may not be huge, but we'll be quite comfortable with lots of "fudge" for inflation/tax increases/etc.
Wife and I discussed it a bit this evening, and pretty much decided that, if nothing else, it'll be nice to have the option to "walk" if things get too hairy in a few years!

You got a safe full of 1911s ... think of all the time you'll have to shoot them.

That ought to make the decision a little one sided for you.

VERY true - besides, it'll give me time to focus on my side business which has been growly slowly but surely. Nice thing about it is that it's a low-stress business that I set my own hours at, and pretty much can do at my leisure. If I don't like someone, I simply don't have to mess with 'em. Ain't no "get rich quick" type thing - just a nice, honest and steady business that's grown over the years through referrals.

I was going to mention that you could always do side work or a part time job. That way you have something to occupy yourself and a little bit of fun money coming in.

My grandfather is "retired" but he works every day. He just does stuff that he enjoys instead of working a job.

Yep. Neat part is, it's the residential side of what I've been doing commercially for 33 years, so all my licensing, etc. transfers straight over. It also gives the advantage of ongoing tax deductions for tools, etc. That's one of the really nice things - my tool budget comes from the side business, and I've got some pretty nice gadgets around here to play with.<G>

Main thing is, when we want to go to a rally, or take an extended vacation, we'll be able to do so without worrying about the budget.
