Car stereo work is pretty easy to do yourself if you have some basic mechanical ability. What is the make, model, and year of your car?

96 integra coupe. the guy took his system out and just threw in a cheap radio.. the problem is i have no where to work on the car.. my apt is really anal about working on your own cars in the car ports. i can't even wash it there. I really have no basic mechanical ability..

Absolutely that counts. If you have a few simple tools you should be able to do this. Screw drivers, wire strippers/crimpers, and a multimeter are all you should really need. Do you know if the other speakers are working and just not hooked up, or are they possibly blown.

hmmm.. i dunno.. but i was thinking.. since i was gonna do this and run the wires and all that i might as well get new speakers.. newegg.com has these on sale right now.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290056 really good reviews. also i have a 12 inch alpine sup in a skinny box from the previous car i was gonna throw in there. hmm i need an amp for that.

i have tons of Screwdrivers, wire strippers.. but no multimeter.

Nice looking and from all that I have heard Polk makes some good speakers. They run 60 watts RMS though and I kinda doubt that your headunit pushes that. But it might. Running new wires can be a PITA, but may be well worth it depending on what you get. The multimeter is a great tool to have just to diagnose any issues in the system. You don't have to buy a $100 Fluke multimeter. For the amount I imagine you would use it a $30 will work fine.

I would really doubt that the wires aren't there. There is no real reason to remove them unless you are upgrading. Also, about the carport thing, get a headunit with a removeable faceplate, most car stereo thiefs won't bother stealing them this way as they don't work. The common smash and grab bum isn't deterred though.

the system is installed.. so anyway i go and get an amp kit and some extra wire and speakers and low and behold.. the car was already wired for a sub in the truck and wires were already run. i just had to hook up the speakers and connec the amp. took about 2 hours. (im slow) sounds good. pretty easy. now we need to get an alarm for the car.

I knew you could do it. 2 hours isn't that bad. I am assuming you took several "cold beverage" breaks, I know I would have. Nice Job!
