May be of limited interest here, but Buell Motorcycles:patriot: has closed its doors. 2003-2005 I raced Buells at the local Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana tracks with some success and monor fame and notoriety as "the Guy with the Buell and the Accent". Buell closed last month but I only heard today but feel like part of my life closed with it. Harley Davidson that owns 99% of Buell is realigning itself and Buell is a victim.

From what little I know Buell was more of a marketing thing and a way to diversify profits rather than pay taxes.
    It is sad though!

Air-cooled Amercan V-twin motor cannot compete with a water-cooled in-line 4 import motor. Just cant. Comparing apples to oranges so to speak. But their target marketing demographic likes to go fast.

From a professional standpoint not sad to see em go. They are a pain to work on. However, I hear we have to provide warranty work for the next 7 years.

From an enthusiast perspctive its sad to see an American Motorcycle Company fail.

Well, the air-cooled part kind of dooms it. You cannot get as much power out of a similarly-sized air-cooled engine as you can out of a water-cooled engine. Impossible. More power = more heat. Air-cooled engines have come a long way, but there are limits, even if you oil-cool the engine and continue calling it air-cooled like Porsche did with their old 911.

Sad to see an American company go away. I looked at their motorcycles and did not find any that suited my touring tastes so they didn't get my business.

Yes the memories of true loves long gone fade slowly like my 1948 Indian Chief, 74 cu.in. V twin. Beautiful, Black, smooth, and powerful.....Some SOBS in a foreign land
crossing the 38th paralel and invading their neighbod ended the Indian love affair and they were in the death throes as an American Motorcycle Manufacturer anyway.

My Grandfather worked for Wico Magneto and made them for Indian. He had an Indian from about 1920 until 1950. Spanned those years with only three bikes.

Did they announce a buyer for MV Augusta? Those things are rolling works of art - I hope they find a good home.

My cousin raced Buells for local shop in MO for a couple years. Wonder what he thinks?

On a related note, my sister took advantage of the new inventory that was being liquidated and picked up a real nice brand new '09 for a steal.
