    In your opinion what 1 single issue or law had the greatest impact of the political scene that lead us to where we are today?
    I know it took more than one issue but IYO what was the “Spark” that ignited the fire.

    Maybe not the one single issue, but the failure of the Republican Party to hold to the Conservative principles they were sent to Washington, by the voters, to uphold. They had a golden opportunity to clean up a lot of mess, but instead they were sucked in by the business-as-usual allure of money and power and were voted out, and replaced by this quandary of crap we have now, by frustrated voters looking for so called “change.” I also think that GW could have done a better job in the 8 years he was in office. All in all, I see gross disregard for the will of the people.

    Public schools indoctrinating people that it is OK for the different parts of the government, particularly the federal parts, to use powers not given them by the people for "the public good." Basically, we forgot to limit the powers of the Governments that we have.

    IMO, there is no one, single thing that is the cause, because it is the culmination of many political, social, and economic causes. I'd add that people in America have little or no appreciation for how much societal factors are playing a role in our downfall.

    The New Deal and the passing of the Social Security act started us down the slippery slope to where we are today...

    The Community Reinvestment Act nearly destroyed our financial system...

    I would have to say that it is Political Correctness and Liberalism that are the driving factors in the decline of western Society...

    many political, social, and economic causes.

    The break down of the family. Dad leaves, mom leaves, kids act up at school, people stop putting value on relationships, no guidance or direction from home, no authority at home, divorced families are poorer families, moms forced to work, kids eating dinner out of a paperbag on the way to dance/karate/cub scouts, and so on, and so forth.

    If adults can't be responsible, work through life's ups and down, how can we expect our kids to do it?

    Now, I'm not saying every thing is peaches and cream out there. Some people have no business getting married, having kids, or caring for others.

    So, I'm back to divorce.

    That was almost my first choice.

    EDIT: Wanted to add, welfare check = I don't need no man. SS check = I don't have to make sound decisions and take care of my own future.

    I still say it's far too complicated to narrow down to one, or even two or three, choices. And what's worse is the old saying is totally relevant here: It's easier to tear something down than it is to rebuild it. Socially, it only took a few decades to tear our culture down, and even if...IF...we chose to turn things around tomorrow it would take centuries to get back to where we were before.

    Big Shooter = see gross disregard for the will of the people.
    Thorkly = political correctness
    High_Cap 1911 = when we switched to a 2-party system....
    Megafatcat = Legalized abortion
    Harley Rider 55 = Taking prayer out of the public schools
    Texas 42 = Basically, we forgot to limit the powers of the Governments that we have
    DCortez = Divorce
    TrailDust = Not playing by the rules as usual – LOL!!!!
    BigLucky = The New Deal and the passing of the Social Security act started us down the slippery slope to where we are today...
    Okieriflem = slavery

    By now you may see what I am driving for; a list of what the average American in his own opinion was the primary factor.
    I'll keep putting them together in list form and in a few days and more input we can look at what has been posted and debate the true down fall and where it started.

    Now those that have not chimed in make you voice heard!

    Easy for me, but this goes a little deep.

    The RISE of the left wing media in America.

    Sure, at one time Uncle Walter was a committed left winger but in public he kept it hidden. He slipped up when he called the Vietnam War a loss but as a rule, he still supported America. When he retired he want full blown left winger, but no one paid much attention to him by then.

    It probably coincides with the rise of cable TV and 24 hour news, but they found they had to invent news, create controversy. Every time someone was hurt with a pin prick - Breaking News!!!

    In the 90's it ramped up with the rise of FOX News, who tended to balance politics. The left wingers found they had to sensationalize (OK, lie) to keep ratings.

    Case in point:

    George W. Bush won in a disputed election and every hanging chad was scrutinized. But he prevailed, through trial after trials to his presidency. He won reelection convincingly in 2004 but from then on he as eviscerated in the left wing media, along with sex deviant Repugs. With the fraudulent papers that Dan Blather tried to put out, it was obvious that no longer was truth and honesty the norm.

    Today we have the left wing media totally behind a Socialist administration, supporting the takeover of every major industry, the raping of our health care, and even trying to promote diversity when it comes to the slaughter of American Soldiers.

    We are in a big spiral that is rapidly swirling down a drain.

    I'll throw my in now.

    Not limiting the term of any representative of the house or senate to 8 years max.
    By no limits of term being imposed we have politicians that have made career's out of robbing the us citizen on all levels.
    If you can't accomplish your goals in eight years you are in the wrong field to begin with IMO!
    The longer you are in office the less things seem un-ethical or immoral so you no longer have a soul so to speak.

    The New Deal and Social Security started our "entitlement" mindset. The responsibility of charity shifted from the church to government and was no longer voluntary. The responsibility of "self" evolved into the complaint "I'm a victim of ...(insert p.c. term here)" We are now a nation of spoiled brats.
