Just read Bill Ross "IWO JIMA". Mentions several time a "BURST OF FIRE" from the carbines. I had understood the FA M2 carbine was not issued until Korea? Any concrete data?

I have, in a past life, fired a full-auto carbine brought back from WWII. My impression--a useless waste of ammunition.

Lotta fun to shoot but I agree sort of a full auto 38 spcl

It drives a 110 gr. bullet at 1900 - 2000 FPS, compared to an AK47 at 123 gr. bullet at 2300 FPS. It's not exactly a pea shooter, but it manages recoil very well.

I want to suppress one since the round is so quiet.

Dang, if those numbers are right for Ak ammo makes me wonder why they (AK) need all that case for that little bit of powder- hahahah or its kinda weak powder given lighter pointed vs flat nose bullet- as far as pure ratios are involved- What s 38 spcl? 158gr at 1100 or so.
M1 Carbine ought to be considered a kid gun for its complete lack of recoil-
    Real fun to shoot

I have an M1 and it is a blast to shoot. It started me on the path of fanatical MILSURP collecting. Great starter gun for a kid too. It was originally intended as a bridge between a pistol and a long gun.

158 gr. at 750 - 800 FPS in standard pressures.

Most of the .38 loads out there are sub-sonic, that's why they are so quiet.

    The AK's case isn't that big, it's only 39mm long compared to 51mm for a 7.62 NATO (.308 Win) or 63mm for a .30-06.

Had an M1 Carbine made by Winchester, sweet plinker but as useless as a deer rifle as my 9mm Luger was for killing jackrabbits...Have fired M2 Carbine but again other than the thrill of firing full auto, just another plinker out of reach by price and legality. The old 30-30 will slay deer just fine and a .38spl loaded with lead Elmer Keith hollowpoints make a jackrabbit go "bloop" like an overinflated baloon....

The M1 carbine was Audie Murphy's carry rifle. Okay, that little fact means nothing other than a reason to thread jack for my whore count.

The M2 was adopted in October 1944. The battle of Iwo Jima was fought February 19 – March 26, 1945. So, it's possible that there were M2s there. On the other hand, the phrase , "burst of fire", could have different meanings to different people. Yes, auto weapons fire "bursts", but if someone suddenly heard one or more SA weapons being fired rapidly, that person might also describe it as a "burst" or even "several bursts".

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

The M1 and the M2 are both fun shooters, as for when the M2 was first put into a theater of war was i always understood it to be late 44 early 45
