Well I went. I'm not sure if it's technique or if the sights need to be adjusted but I always hit to the left of where I aim. I read in the book how to adjust it but couldn't seem to get that to work. The elevation had to be adjusted and I managed that. Towards the end I also started having a real problem with jams. Not sure if it's because of cheap ammo or just the fact that I had already put 100 rounds through it, but I'd pull the slide back and the bullet wouldn't quite chamber it would just be kinda stuck in their diagonally and the slide wouldn't close fully. So I'd drop the mag and pull the slide back and let it fall out. It seemed to be hit or miss and not particular to any bullet. If I tried again with the same round, 95% of the time it would chamber just fine. Gun is dirty as hell now though.

Overall, good time. Wasn't really as intimidating as I expected it to be. No one saw anything wrong with what I was doing obviously. No one stopped me or corrected me but as I said, I'd been once before and I basically knew what I was doing already. Just felt odd going by myself.

    Supernova,

Good on ya! Glad you decided to go and had a good time! I'm over in the NW corner of Houston and usually just go to Hot Wells since it is the closest to me. With some advanced planning, maybe we could meet up somewhere midpoint like Spring Guns & Ammo, invite some of the other guys and have a "north Houston TGT day"... I haven't been on this forum for that long and would like to meet some fellow TGT shooters!

    Glad it went well.

I would suggest getting with some experienced shooters and maybe letting them run a few rounds before adjusting the sights.

Often it's a shooter related issue.

+1.. It's been the case a time or two with my own guns. Swore it was the sights, had another shoot it, was way wrong.

This is what it would do, randomly. I'd have my mag filled and fire a couple of shots, then one would end up like this. Or I'd clear that jam, and the next one would do the same. or I'd get through a whole mag with no problem.

Did the owner's manual recommend a break in period or round count?

Mag issues are more common with small calibers, so I don't think it's that. Make sure your mag is seated and you're not limp - wristing. If that don't fix it, give Ruger a call.

Not that I remember, I'll go through it again though. It didn't start happening until after my first box of ammo though. First box was a more expensive brand. So from my limited understanding could of just been dirty or it could of been the cheap ammo causing it. Could be something else entirely though.

    Gunz are icky.
You should run several hundred rounds thru the firearm before you start to worry.

ALL semi-auto pistols need to be broken in.

Once you've fired about 500rds thru it, if the problems still exist, then start trying to diagnose it.
Very typical for semi's to have issues at first.

Welcome to the world of shooting.

I work nights a lot too so I can understand your predicament.

It felt good to go. I was about to end up not going, I got some really bad news today, but decided I wasn't going to let it stop me. I think it kinda helped. You can't really do much thinking when you're there shooting a gun, because you have to concentrate on what you're doing. As short as it was, it gave me some level of peace to take my mind off all my problems. It also got me a lot more comfortable with my gun, as in actually shooting it. Before today if someone decided to bust in my front door there's really no telling what would happen.

I worked a lot on trial and error, what worked, what didn't. The best stance that gave me the best accuracy, I learned that keeping my elbows bent rather than locked gave me the ability to make more accurate follow up shots and deal with less recoil. Just general stuff like that. I didn't just go emptying mags, I was actually there teaching myself. I also learned to clear an actual jam. There was one jam where I couldn't drop the mag back out. I managed to remedy it on my own through common sense.

I learned a lot of confidence today.
