Highland Park -- A 37-year-old man was arraigned today in 30th District Court after being accused of shooting his teenage son execution-style while the boy pleaded for his life.
Jamar Pinkney Sr. faces one count of first-degree murder, three counts of felonious assault and one count of felony firearm.
Judge Bridgette Officer today in court ordered Pinkney Sr. to be held without bond as he awaits a preliminary exam on Dec. 1.
The courtroom was packed with emotional family members, including one who broke down and was escorted out of the room.
Police allege Pinkney marched his naked son, Jamar Jr., 15, out of a home at gunpoint near Rosa Parks and North Tuesday, and forced him into an adjacent grassy field. Investigators say the father made his son kneel before shooting him in the back of the head. Relatives said Jamar Jr. was pleading for his life as he was shot.
Highland Park police officials said the shooting occurred after an argument between the suspect and his son.
Relatives said Jamar Jr. recently admitted that he'd had inappropriate physical contact with a 3-year-old several months ago.
Jamar's aunt, Yolanda Cherry, said a relative took the girl to a doctor to be examined on Sunday, and that there were no indications of sexual abuse.
"There is nothing normal about killing your child," Cherry said. "I don't know why he shot him. He was a good boy. This is so sad."
One of Pinkney's attorneys, Corbett Edge O'Meara, said his client's state of mind will have to be considered as the case proceeds.
"That is certainly something a prosecutor and judge and jury will have to take into account," he said. "It obviously is a tragedy for the whole family. The entire situation is a tragedy for all involved."
If convicted, Jamar Pinkney Sr. will spend the rest of his life in prison.

I'm not sure I'd shoot my son. I am pretty sure I'd beat him to death. Indications or not, inappropriate contact covers more than penetration.

Makes me sad to see how broken many parts of our society have become in my lifetime, while I never considered myself as overly religious I feel there is a connection between the lost of religious teachings and our broken society.

After thinking about this the only thing that could make me feel any better about it would be, if the dad had already caught the boy doing it multiable times before.

What if it turns out the dad had molested his son?

Thankfully my son is only 4 right now, but if he was to grow up and do something like this, there is not enough love in the world for someone who takes away innocence like that.

Growing up, we had a kid that lived in our apartment complex who molested his younger brother. Five of us beat the living crap out of him for close to 15 mins. His uncle, who happened to be a detective, stopped us from killing him, but he never said a word about it to us after that.

There are just some things that you dont do, and this is one of them. I wouldve gladly of provided the gun and ammo to have done the job...

honestly id say prove it, prosecute him as an adult, and throw him in club fed, and get him a taste of his own medicine.
im sure they'd do the job anyway, and if he made it, i doubt he'd make the same mistake again.

The thing of it is, statistics tell another story about who the real perps are out there and who kids need to be protected from....

I worked in a prison unit in Texas. Once inside, the Offenders are advised NOT to speak of their charges. I dealt with a fight that started because one Offender suggested that another was a child molester. The suspected molester went to Administrative Segregation and finally became a "PC" in protective custody. The molester tag wouldn't wash off.

I saw another PC offender being escorted to a van to be removed from the unit. The two officers had him shackled and in leg chains. Each officer carried a huge club. I made a comment to another employee about the PC prisoner being a bad dude. He replied that the clubs were not for the PC person but for those who might attack him. Prison is a very hard place for folks who hurt kids or those who have unpopular charges.

If the sex Offender is successful and keeps his charges secret, the prison system will get him anyway. I tried to get some of the Offenders qualified to serve as my assistants (SSI) and the first thing that is checked is their offense. Sex Offenders and especially folks who hurt kids get the worst assignments and that is something that will not change as long as they are locked up.

Sex Offenders are not allowed to use computers on the units. That doesn't mean Internet use. They aren't allowed to use computers PERIOD and they can't take classes where computers are used.

There is nothing a sex offender or molester can do to put that type of charge behind them and molesters will be beaten to death or shanked if the charges become known to the general population. Nothing is forgiven. Nothing is forgotton.

The kid did not get a trial so we will never know the truth. (I'm not going soft on you guys) We know nothing about the father and will never hear the correct story from the press anyway. That said, I passionately believe there is no rehabilitation for a child abuser/molester and immediate extermination is justified after validation of guilt. I am not talking about an 18 year old who sleeps with his 16 year old girl friend and mommy cries he raped my baby. I am talking about adults who violate a child. The law gets awkward in the mid teen years to late teen years when a 17 year old can tag his 15 year old girl friend all day long and his health teacher in school will supply the condoms and recommend interesting positions, and on his next birthday he or she is an instant rapist. A 15 year old with a three year old is a horrific crime. Every one of us here was 15 once and we knew right from wrong. Wait, excuse me, I think TrailDust is still 14.
