From what I can understand, its a no carry based on good faith and there are usually no 30.06's posted. So, whats the SOP on this?

I'm just getting my CHL this week and have never really given carrying, in a gunshow, much thought. Every time I've taken a gun to a show it was unloaded and locked in a case. Having it zip tied at the door.

Shows are pretty much "No Carry Zones" and all I have seen have been posted.
The sign is usually at the table where guns are checked in and tie strapped.
I have been in a few shows where the sign was hard to see / find but it was there.

Some of the guns shows I've attended have a sign right out front. I really didn't break my neck looking though. I just figured that a gun show was off limits to CCW holders. Good question though.

What amuses me is that it’s the event hall that’s the no gun zone, but they take the show money none the less.
If you purchased the gun and ammo to match at the show, are you theoretically carrying?

here's what slays me: IF i arrive, take my gun off my hip, hand it to the officer, he zip tie's it, and i put it back in my holster, and finally pull my shirt over it.

just how, HOW, does the zip tie make things 30.06 compliant?

i gotta tell 'ya, i'm going to tomorrow's show, but from here on out they're not going to get my business any more. if i'm not going to do business with ANOTHER business because they are posted, then i'm going to treat the gun shows the same way. my little protest.

i'm only going because i've already committed to meet freinds.

maybe if we all stand up and start writing the folks that hold these events, we can get our point across.

    RIDICULOUS.

    my .02 cents....

Because at that point you received "effective consent" to carry. 30.06 is only in play if you carry the handgun without effective consent, and you were given notice not to carry.

Do what your conscience tells you to do, but IMO your protest is misguided.

It is reasonable to want NO loaded firearms in a place where people are handling guns, trying holsters, etc.

You could argue the same if you're going into Cabela's, Academy, or any gun shop...wherein I'm always carrying.

Aside from the jerky sales, baseball caps with rattlesnake heads, rubberband guns, Whiskey Tango jewelry, and mediocre deals, that's just another reason I don't attend shows anymore.

Yeah, I do. How many gun shows have you ever been in where the dealer is handing you a loaded firearm? Or where that same dealer has ammo close by? Not only isn't it loaded, it's got a ziptie through it. Not so at a gun shop or sporting goods store.

I will agree with you it's not a matter of discussion. It's just a matter of opinion, pal.

All gun shows that I have ever attended take your ammo at the door. I personally think that no loaded guns at a gun show is a good idea. Some of the folks that are in attendance are not all that smart! Here in East TX where I live, you get your ammo back, not so in the Dallas area. Went to a gun show there last year, and lost 3 mag loads of Hydro Shock. They kept it, put it in a 5 gal. water jug, and then auctioned it off to the dealers after the show. I complained to a local LEO that was working the show, but got no where. I find it very diffucult to find a bargan on any thing at a gun show. $10+ to get in the door will just about wipe out any good deal you may find. If I ever attend another gun show it will be to look only, but not purchase. I can get a far better deal at any one of my local gun dealers.

    I agree.

Gunshows are not the proper time or place to protest CC.

Do you REALLY see a gun show and a full retail store as the same thing? If so, there is no need for us to discuss this.

I agree 100% with TI on this. At a Gun Show you pick-up thousands of guns on your own...........at Cabellas or anyother gun store you must first get someone to help you then have them hand you one gun at a time to look at or hold. NOT THE SAME AT ALL!

It is impossible to discuss anything with a person who makes unreasonable statements and associations so he can be sure his point is made, pal.

...It is impossible to discuss anything....

Who's asking you to discuss anything? Back up and read where I already agreed with you it wasn't worth discussing. Give it a break and move on.

    Well.........

Going forward, we should all be a more compliant/quiet individuals, and make sure not to upset the apple cart. I mean, we should completely understand that it's totally unacceptable to expect to be able to carry a weapon licensed by my state to, of all things, a "weapons" show. I guess we should all have understood this is very much in-line with the "no outside food" rule in restaurants.

We'll respect the law, but , I don't make a good "sheeple". Feel free to tell me I'm an idiot, I'll accept that. The same people saying "oh my gosh, the last place we want loaded firearms is at a gun show", are the some of the same folks that might be angry because the Fort Hood soldiers were not armed.

I expect the flames, so my flamesuit is on.

    That's my simple .02 cents.

    (yea, that's sarcasm you detected.....)
