The National Rifle Association is speaking out against (Open Carry) groups, saying using guns to draw attention to yourself in public shows "a lack of consideration and manners"...

    NRA Criticizes Open Carry Advocates

"...It's downright weird and certainly not a practical way to go normally about your business while being prepared to defend yourself. To those who are not acquainted with the dubious practice of using public displays of firearms as a means to draw attention to oneself or one's cause, it can be downright scary. It makes folks who might normally be perfectly open-minded about firearms feel uncomfortable and question the motives of pro-gun advocates."

OK, my 2¢, I am not a fan of the antics of OCT or Grisham; but I don't think the NRA should be speaking against something that is Constitutionally-allowed and is legal, especially claiming it shows a "lack of consideration and manners."

I have never been a big fan of the NRA, I know the organization does a lot to progress gun rights; but every time something like this from them, I wonder what their priorities really are.

This is not about a popularity contest, it is a fight for what should be inalienable rights!

    Thoughts?

I agree with the NRA 100%. As the Atlanta Airport nutjob shows, these guys aren't right in the head and will sink the rest of us. YOU! Mouthbreather with the AR loaded with a drum mag at the low ready at one of the busiest airports in the US! off my planet!

Ummmmm-that quote was from June of 2014 when OCTC and Kory Watkins were in full retard mode. NRA later retracted their statement.

NRA still gets my yearly check.
Although they seem to ask for it every two weeks...

They see other groups as competition and don't like it. Afraid "political capital" will be spent on things they can't solely own...

I'm an endowment member, but they really rub me the wrong way sometimes.

I really DON'T think the NRA saw OCTC, Kory Watkins and "fatty & snowboots" as competition.

Benefactor Life member here, and the NRA doesn't rub me the wrong way (although they REALLY need to start looking beyond Obama and REALLY worry about Hillary)

    Out here by the lake!
If I wasn't a life member I wouldn't join. I'm not going to denounce my membership like Mr. New Wold Order did either. I can't open my Americsan Rifleman without getting pissed off. I have thought about telling them to send me a hat & keep the magazines.

Where did that quote in the article come from? I'd like to read the source and see if that provides some context and to where the NRA officially stands concerning open carry.

FWIW, the NRA has become a powerful force in DC. I don't agree with everything they do but if my dollars goes to grease some palms in Washington that allows my kids to enjoy guns as much as I have then so be it. If not then we will continue to see gun rights erode away.

    The NRA supports open carry.

That statement was released when groups were going into family restaurants with ak47s.

Sometimes I think these anti-NRA posters are shills for the anti-gun lobby. If they can just get us to stop supporting the most powerful pro-gun lobby on Capital Hill....

OK, tin foil hat is off.

    I agree.

It seems we only hear much about the negatives of the NRA.

I am a member and usually support their views.

Probably not the majority of them but I don't doubt some of them are.
