I have had my license for a few weeks now and remembering to look for the Texas 30.06 sign has been the hardest thing about carrying. I seem to remember AFTER I leave the store. So far, I have not had any violations. Thanks, Steven

"PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.06, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF A LICENSE TO CARRY A CONCEALED HANDGUN) A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (CONCEALED HANDGUN LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN."

"CONFORME A LA SECCIÓN 30.06 DEL CÔDIGO PENAL (TRASPASAR PORTANDO ARMAS DE FUEGO) PERSONAS CON LICENCIA BAJO DEL SUB-CAPITULO H, CAPITULO 411, CODIGO DE GOBIERNO (LEY DE PORTAR ARMAS), NO DEBEN ENTRAR A ESTA PROPIEDAD PORTANDO UN ARMA DE FUEGO."

I am not from Texas, but what type establishments would post this restriction?

Usually hospitals, schools, government buildings (city, county, state, federal). Schools are a no-no even if there isn't a sign. I haven't seen it at any businesses yet, but doesn't mean it's not.

Got to agree with the DADT policy, rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

You will get to the point that you realize you are entering a Gun Free Zone. You won't need to see the sign (if it is posted). And then you just ignore it anyway. I think the only way you would get caught, if you are truly concealed, is if you have to pull your weapon. Worth it at that point.

So why are we restricted anyway? Where do you think the term "going postal" came from?

You'll see them now and again. The buildings that are off limits by statue don't need to post, but some do post a sign. The one's I've seen (City Hall etc) are not 30.06 signs, but state you can't carry their by law. I see a lot of plain ol signs that say no guns allowed which of course we know are not binding except they could ask you to leave if some how discovered. The 30.06 needs to be posted in such a way as you would for sure see it as you enter.

Some places that serve alcohol will post a sign that states it is against the law to enter with a non licensed gun, which of course means if you've got a CHL you're okay, unless they post a 51%.

The places that do not want people trying to protect themselves or want our business. Thanks, Steven

Please..........Business who do not wish for CHLers to carrry a firearm into their business.

They are certainly NOT indicating they don't want your business. I am always surprised when a person who so rants about "his" rights wants to complain about another person asserting his.

Umm, government buildings are not off limits even if the mistakenly post a 30.06 sign, unless they have a court.

This is an inane comment. Those are not the only two options, and suggest committing a crime that can cause you to lose your right to carry, and cost you your freedom.

You will get to the point that you realize you are entering a Gun Free Zone. You won't need to see the sign (if it is posted). And then you just ignore it anyway.
And then going to prison. It is irresponsible to tell folks to violate the law rather than just go somewhere if you feel so strongly about it. If you want to committ felonies and class A misdemeanors then why even bother to get a CHL in the first place?

I think the only way you would get caught, if you are truly concealed, is if you have to pull your weapon.
So you only obey laws you would get caught if your violate them?

City Hall is not off limits, and even if 30.06 posted you do not commit a violation of you carry there. The only exception would be if there was a court in the building. Most do not have courts.

The 30.06 needs to be posted in such a way as you would for sure see it as you enter.
That is inaccurate. If the sign is posted inside, you do not commit a violation by entering, but you do if you remain with your firearm.

Does the court need to be in session, or is the presence of a court enough.
The reason I ask is my small City Hall also doubles as the court (one day a month). The court takes the place of the regular meeting area where the council and members of public meet for the regular city meetings.
I'm not sure if there is a court in the building when its not in session, because the area used for the court is in use for another official purpose.
I never risked it and always leave my gun in the safe in my pickup, but its an interesting question.

I apologize, I did not mean for anyone to break the law. Gun free zones are there for our safety. Our government knows what is best for us.

Sorry, I have to side with TXI. I can't feel right insisting that others obey the rules if I don't make the attempt at all times. Of course, it makes it "easier" for me that we can't carry at/from/to any of my jobs :banghead: (and, thanks to the 30.06 site posting, we just now found out we can't carry in our bank), so I and Mrs. OldSchool are kinda "shot down" with carrying on a daily basis anyway, even in the car.

FYI: Federal installations (such as a very big one in Clear Lake City) are all off-limits at the gates. No 30.06 signs necessary (trumps TX law). Ignoring those signs changes your mailing address to Leavenworth....

Do you or will you teach your kids that committing felonies and misdemeanor is OK as long as they can justify it in their heads somehow? You will teach them that they can pick and choose which laws to follow based on whatever THEY think is right at the time?

No wonder society is screwed up.
