Anyone have feedback on the Taurus 709 Slim?

I just got two of them in yesterday and I really like the way they are countoured. I've been looking for something that fits my g/f's hand and this might just be it. It feels a little too slim for me, but she liked how it felt. I've never shot one, or any Taurus auto, and was hoping someone here might have some feedback on them before I get one for myself. Anyone? TIA.

Had the chance to shoot one the other day.

Think about the old S&W 3913 lady smith.

Nice shooter, had hard time inside the 9 ring at 35 foot but I think that was me not the weapon.

Ergo wise, I needed the larger back strap available for it so it would fit my hand better but thats just my gorilla hands.

The finger dent on the side of the frame was a little close to the trigger well for me but fit the fiance great (she is 5'11" i am 6'4").

The mag well opening was a bit too tight for my taste for rapid mag changes, but training would solve that.

The fiance wants to trade her PT-111 for one.

Bought one a few months back, have a couple of hundred rounds through it with nary a hiccup. They come covered in cosmoline or something, so you have to clean them out well before shooting; otherwise they are great guns. Some folks have had problems with the Slim, but I think that is mainly due to 1) not cleaning them properly, 2) limpwristing them (small guns require a firm hold) or 3) crappy ammo.

The PT709 is my second Taurus semi-auto, and I have had nothing but great experiences with both. Oh, and Taurus offers a lifetime guarantee on the gun, no matter what owner you are. The first Taurus I bought (a PT111) was used, and it came with a mag with a bent lip (most likely caused by the previous owner). I called 'em and they said send it back. I did and got a new one in a little over a week. I was impressed, I like a company that stands behind their products!

And thorkyl, the Slim and the PT111 Mil Pro are about the same size except for the width. That is why I am looking at maybe picking up a PT738 TCP (.380), which is much smaller. I handled one last weekend and it feels great for being a pocket gun. I had a Kel-Tec P3AT (which is what I traded for the PT111) and hated it; but the PT738 could be my next pistol!

Thanks for the feedback. I have a few other handguns I want the g/f to try but I'll probably put this one on the short list for her. She said it was really comfortable in her hands which is a first for any of the handguns I've had her hold/shoot.

How does it compare to a Kahr CW9?

We have a PT709 that we bought used for my wife as her carry gun. Previous owner told us he had problems with FTE using WWB ammo so we didn't use that. We had FTE problems with everything we fed it. 1)Gun was throughly cleaned & lubed. 2) Different shooters not limp wristing, 3)Tried Monarch, Federal, & Sellior & Bellot ammo all 115 gr FMJ. The gun is now in Miami being repaired. What other suggestions do you have?? My opinion is the gun is broke!!

How does it compare to a Kahr CW9?

We both shot the Kahr CW9 as rental gun and were very impressed with the accuracy, the same if not better than the 709. Even though it a DAO trigger it more predictable the Taurus 709 trigger. We ran 50 round through the gun and never had a single issue, not bad for a range gun. It is a bit wider the 709, but still very concealable.

I bought one for my wife for Christmas! Aren't I thoughtful? And you know what? If she's not carrying it, maybe, just MAYBE I can carry it? Hint....hint....hint....LOL.

Of course, being the thoughtful husband I am, I took it with me up to the farm one night last week, cleaned it up (as a previous poster noted, it's FULL of grease/cosmolene) and needed a thorough scrubbin'. After completely stripping it down to the trigger assembly, I put it back together and ran several clips through it. No problems. It was getting dark, so I wasn't trying for accuracy.

Then, I stripped it back down, cleaned it up, and back in the box it went so I can wrap my, I mean HER gift up for Christmas morning!!

Who knows, maybe she'll get me a nice blender and we can trade?

Seriously, tho....it's a nice little pistol, quite the break from my usual XDm .40 that I carry every day.

Ditto what was said above. I highly recommend completely stripping that Taurus down (the stuff in the frame can stay in) and giving it a thorough cleaning first. All new Taurus' come with some NASTY grease packed in their from the factory. I usually clean any new gun I buy before shooting it. That plus lubrication and I bet it will function better.
