Okay the wife said I can get a 25-06 with the income tax rip off return check from the internal reaming service. But I told her I would keep it at around $400 - $500 but I'd like to keep it at, around or preferably below $400. I will hang the 7.5 fixed power Leopold that is on my 30-06 on it until I can afford another scope. So All that being said whats out there in this price range that is chambered in 25-06? I know the Remington 700, I think a model 70, and I know there are some Marlin XL7's that were chambered in 25-06 for a while. Maybe a savage? I like Savage rifles and I like the accutrigger but I'd kinda like to give Remington, or Marlin a try. What do yall think?

You can't go wrong with a Savage. A 700, 70 or 77 may be hard to find in that price range with a decent adjustable trigger. Plus the Savage would be a model 110 or so, not a number with a 7. Hehehe

I have thought about that. But I don't have the time to invest in it right at this time. I could change all that out later on a Remington, Winchester, or a Savage right?

They are all very upgradable. The question is, are you going to want to upgrade, or spend the money on another gun when the time comes?

I don't know much about which 25-06 rifle is best, but I can say that it is a pretty sweet little round. You can shoot a 110grn hp at 4700 fps! if you like varmint shooting those type of ballistics are hard to beat. Then you can always load up to like a 150 amax for whitetail.

Its a 30-06 case necked down to a 270-6mm size bullet correct? I don't have one myself but I have used one in Kansas on prairie dog shoots before and it was just awesome.

I'm wondering about brands are out there that are around that price range that will do about 1 moa. I know the Marlin bolt guns are a moa/sub moa for a decent price but what else is there.

Hey I just got an idea! Calm down it doesn't involve gun powder and an anvil. I wonder how hard it would be to convert my Sears and roebuck Ted Williams model 53 (Winchester model 70) 30-06 Springfield to a 25-06? It's the same case diameters just a different bullet diameters and size so feeding wouldn't be an issue and with a new barrel and stock I'd be ready to go. Right?

Correct but which Model 70 is it pre or post 64 that can make a lil differance on how big of a deal the barrel swap would be. I know for a fact pre is a mauser copy and those the barrel has to be clearanced for the big claw extractor, I'm not sure if the post 64's have to or not.

Post. I'm pretty sure. It doesn't have the mouser action and claw extractor. What all would I need to do to get it converted to a 25-06 and shooting good (at least 1 MOA) other than barrel and a stock? And what all would have to be done with just a barrel and a stock to make the barrel fit properly?

BC, since they have the same boltface, it would be a pretty easy conversion, but you arent going to save any money. To put a new barrel on there, even a cheap one, and do all the machine work is going to cost you upwards of around $400. I am a Remington man, but there are other choices out there. Check out the Weatherby Vanguard Sub MOA. I have heard some really good things about them. The Smith I-Bolt is in your price range too I believe and should be pretty good. Thats all I can do for you without telling you to go find a used 700 already!!!!

The weatherbys are nice. I have the 30-06 and my roommate (wife) has the 25-06 vanguard. Mine is a MOA shooter easily and hers is sub-MOA. The vanguard is guaranteed MOA or better (unless you buy the sub-MOA). I managed to get one of each without having to go the sub route. Just my coupla pennies.
