You would like a new CCW, something more compact than I have now, in 40 or 45.

I really want to get my first AR style rifle. And would have to keep adding to that account...lol

Get the AR started. The nice thing is you can pick up parts here and there when you have the money. Before you know it you will have the AR you always wanted.

I would ask the first question of what caliber to you currently carry for CCW... You specified you wanted a new 40 or 45... if you carry a .357 or a 40 I would say go for the AR... If not then I'd say you'd probably have more use for the CCW than the AR at this point in time...

Please note I'm not saying these are the only two acceptable calibers for CCW (obviously because I carry .380)... But if you're looking at 40 or 45 and you have something comparable already then go for the AR...

Get the AR, I was in the same boat. Guy at the gun shop said " If you already have a pistol get you a rifle or shot gun" makes sense to have atleast one of each so i went with the AK

On a serious note....you *need* a pocket pistol. There's simply too many times in Texas where you simply can't carry a full-sized/compact - up to you, but for myself, it was the way I went years back when I first got serious about CCW.

The Kahr P or PM series are small and are nice guns but can be a bit pricey, not sure what you're looking to spend. KelTec makes a small 9mm if that caliber is an option.

If you think you need a pocket gun, there's the Ruger LCP, KelTec P3AT or P32. I just bought a P32 last weekend (since .380 ammo is so hard to find) and carry it in an Uncle George's Wallet Holster. Very comfortable, don't even notice that I have it after a while and it makes carrying easy when wearing shorts and a T-shirt. The pistol and holster together cost me about $300 total so shouldn't put too big a dent in the funds toward the AR.
