I wouldn't go so far as to say "there are issues with the XD" I'd rather tell you that no one would give a crap about them if they were still called HS2000s and were sold for half the current price like they were when they debuted. I personally have no appreciation for the un-necessary grip safety and see ZERO performance benefits over any other striker fired pistol. If you have managed to convince yourself that the grip safety is a plus then good for you.

The reality is, in either an experienced shooter or a complete rookies hands, a glock will beat the pants off them all day long. Before you blast back at me, consider that I am a hammer fired fan all day long but would still carry my g19 above the other 20+ pistols I own on any given sunday. Those include 1911 platforms, grandpowers, berettas, S&Ws, FNs, rugers, walthers, glocks and several revolvers. The Xd is not a sub par gun but for a full size auto, I would trust my life several others before I opt for an XD.
Interesting....at all of the pistol classes I have attended as a student, I have only seen a Glock go down. XD kept working fine.

That said, I don't fanboy any particular brand. Carry what you like and shoot well.

Handling malfunctions is a training issue. If you haven't experienced them on whatever platform you shoot them you haven't shot it much.

ETA: Not directed at anyone in particular. Please no one the get butt hurt.

Personally, I found the grip too slippery for my hand. Skate board grip tape fixed it right up though.

I own both the XD and the glock and love them both. The XD was my first pistol and it's still going strong. I just bought the glock a few weeks ago and carry it everyday now. The only differences I see are the grip safety and the tear down. IMO they are both great pistols

Back from the dead! I thought this thread was done and over with. I just wanted to ask you - have you shot them much?

Have you noticed a difference in accuracy?

My two major considerations when buying a weapon that may be used for personal defense (besides concealability) are reliability and accuracy. I shoot better than my XD, but I can't hit the broad side of a barn with a Glock. A trip to the woods last week proved this as every guy I went shooting with besides one had a Glock of some type. I used every ounce of my marksmanship abilities and found that Glocks like to place rounds "approximately" where you aim. I was able to shoot the caps off of bottles at 20 ft consistently with my XD, 1911, CZ-75, Model 27, 638 Bodyguard, and the two ARs I brought. The same exercise when attempted with various Glocks resulted in a lot of cursing and negative feelings.

    That's 5 different Glocks. Two 17s, a 19, a 21, and a 23.

...and you can't chalk it up to familiarity. Sights are sights and triggers are triggers. I know how to aim and I know how to squeeze a trigger. It is my belief that Glocks are just inherently mechanically inaccurate.

...and about the grip angle - I preach instinctive shooting within close-quarter ranges - using your sights can get you killed. Why use your sights when the BG is only 15 feet away from you. You should be able to easily hit someone center of mass without using your sights at that distance - if not, you need more practice. My XD points like a 1911 and I can easily hit a head-sized target at 50 feet from the draw without using my sights - not so with a Glock. I would be lucky to clip an ear with slow and deliberate aimed fire.

Just two more of my cents...
