I would just like to take a moment to clarify all of the above.

I know Mr Cabrera and spent most of the night talking with him about all of this.

To start with, he was not open carrying on campus. He merely submitted an inquiry to the school asking whether they had yet been trained on the new laws that went into effect on the first of the month.

He ended up speaking with the resource officer to clarify the school's position. The resource officer then accosted him in the parking lot to determine if he was open carrying. However, he was not. If you believe that he was, then you must ask yourself why the school was not placed on modified lockdown, as per CCISD policy.

I also have emailed the reporter at KRIS TV and clarified with him. The reporter did the story based on a note from his producer.

Yes, he was arrested before. The charges were dismissed and the officer placed on desk duty. The reason he set up a gofundme account in the first place was that he was arrested and his family wanted to bail him out of jail but didn't have a way to transfer money easily to one central location. Some of his friends also asked if it would be OK if they were to contribute. It wasn't some scheme to make money, as has been implied. I should know. I was one of the contributors.

Either way, it is now a moot story, in that the school has clarified its policies and Mr Cabrera has spoken with the resource officer again this morning and they have reached an understanding in the matter.

Thank you for making a coherent post.

She came out and met him as he was approaching the school in order to ask him if he was carrying, either open or concealed. He refused to answer, and she asked him to leave the campus, which he did willingly leave at that point. The school officials brought his child to him at the edge of the property.

KRIS just posted this to Facebook. Still no retraction on the original story vs what was told here by his friend.

I have carried for many years when I drop off and pick up. I'm not going to change for them. Also during school functions, there is always a firearm in my vehicle. **** them.

Subsection 46.03(a)(l) of the Penal Code prohibits handguns from places on which a school-sponsored activity is occurring, which places can include grounds otherwise excluded from the definition of "premises" such as public or private driveways, streets, sidewalks or walkways, parking lots, parking garages, or other parking areas.

Thank you for a coherent and on point post. I was sitting with my wife when I saw the news story. We had a conversation about the fact that neither of us believe that pick up and drop is a school sponsored event. Also, the news story included comment that there was no clear definition of "premises". I showed my wife the definition in penal code 46.035, referenced in 46.03. She even said it looked clear to her what premises meant.

While I think you friend could make better choices, but at least he is not afraid to put his money where his mouth is, so to speak.
