I've been planning to be there. I have some steel to set up and everything.

The last 36 hours, however, have given me pause. Even though the sun is out in my neighborhood, there's still a large stream of runoff headed downhill next to the curbs on either side of my street. I spent way too much time watching the weather channels yesterday and it's my impression that the areas to our north got even more rain than we did.

Given the propensity of MCGAC to turn into a mud pit and stay that way for a while after big rains, is there anyone up there who we could email or call for a first-hand account of range conditions?

If it's "Drive your truck; your car will probably get stuck" conditions, I'd probably beg off. If it's "Your car will probably be fine but drive your truck just in case" conditions, then I'm still ready to load up and go.

Too bad there's not a webcam permanently set up at the range; they could really use one or two.

I'm trying to find coworkers that live/work close to the range to get a road report but haven't been successful yet. Ben, if you want to call Don that may be our best bet. I called him last week to see if the calendar was current and i dont want him to think im special by calling twice, if that makes sense.

With Saturday's forecast being 50% chance of rain, we're obviously going to have to play it by ear through tomorrow sometime.

It stopped raining here in Huntsville hours ago and is reasonably windy so that will help some.

You're so hard core. I will probably have to knock mud duber nests out of my boots. I need to test a balloon tow rig behind the RC plane for Hville so if conditions permit (other shooters don't mind), y'all may want to bring a shotgun.

Madisonville has gotten ~3 inches of rain over the last two days. The forecast is:

I'll call Don later this morning and ask about conditions.

    Thanks for calling Don, Ben.

The weatherunderground graph I just saw showed a 50% chance between 1 & 4pm, otherwise it was @ 25% throughout the day.

    Talked to Don.

    • "There's a lot of water up here."
    • "I haven't been to the range but if you just want to use the pistol range, you should be able to get to it."
    • "I feel sure the rifle ranges, certainly the longer ranges, will be completely under water."

Just my impression: His tone was sort of "Are you stupid?" and I got the sense that he figured anything beyond short-range pistol work right in front of the pistol line would be a dumb idea.

Given the even-or-so chance that we'll be rained on during the day, I'm having second thoughts.

    What does everyone else think?
