I will be attending as long as the car can get down there. All this rain and greenery reminds me of England...splendid!
Looking forward to meeting a few of you, Glockster has lavished you with much praise.

It would take a Brit to look forward with joy to the prospect of pulling on his wellies. :)

Damnit. If this happens (which is not at all clear), that means I'm going to have to dust off some English pistols, just to live up to my reputation.

Nietzsche - Seriously, this particular range collects water that just stands, making the place pretty miserable once it gets past a certain point. It's nowhere near as bad as one of the Bayou Rifles ranges (which is built at the bottom of a flood-control project and, quite literally, can be under 8 feet of water in the wink of an eye) but it's still a miserable experience once it gets wet enough to sink in ankle-deep as soon as you step off the concrete pads.

What I mean to say is - I want this to happen but I also want it to be a happy occasion for more than just the frogs. (No, I don't mean the ones across the Channel, either. :)) Glockster has more experience with the range during times good and bad than I do. I'm hoping he'll chime in with words of wisdom in the near future.

Addendum - I'm perfectly willing to reschedule to any weekend date and time that doesn't conflict with Hicksville.

Hmmm. Just adding additional facts. If you like the granular way The Weather Underground breaks down forecasts, they're showing a roughly 40% chance of thunderstorms in Madisonville from 9AM to 4PM Saturday, which would be about the time the weather on the west side of this map will be blowing through the area:

Shoot, wish I had seen this sooner. Made a commitment yesterday for this weekend.

Some good folks and good guns going to be there.

It does collect water but until this week it's been very dry here for weeks plus it has been windy since yesterday so that will help.

Here's where I am, if Ben will agree to open up around 9a (that's about when we started last time), I will go to the range after work and check conditions myself and we'll make the call from there.

Nietzsche likely won't login again today since he asked I text him our decision.

    Gunz are icky.
I just personally reconned the range.
road in easily passable. Couple of wet spots but no problems.
Range was open and folks shooting skeet.
Water standing at 50 yd backstops. Muddy but no issue with rubber boots.
    What time we getting started?

I'll be there between 8:30 and 9:00 to open the gate.

If you get there before me and the gate is already open, non-members need to go to the clubhouse, sign into the book, and drop (I think) $5 in the box. If any members there question you, make sure you know my name, Bernard Owens, and give it to them as the member who has invited you as their guest today. Just tell 'em I'm apparently running late and roll your eyes; they'll probably leave you alone as long as you don't start shooting before Curtis or I show up.

For those who haven't been there before, there's no use to show up really early. The range faces almost straight east, apparently laid out by people who either love shooting into the rising sun or who never get up before noon. :)

And that's my single biggest complaint about the place - said, done, forgotten. Now I'm just looking forward to having fun tomorrow.

Definitely will. I tend to lump Madisonville in with the Houston gang as both are in my territory at work.

I ended up clicking this tread because I wondered what the heck a MCGAC was.

    Finally made it home.

Expanding on the recon: It's definitely muddy but I think we will be fine.
The pistol range area was mostly clear. There was some water standing in the grass target areas.
The rifle area was standing water in front of the 50yd target stands. Didn't look very deep but will be muddy. I could see the broken clay pigeons sticking up out of the water.
The parking area behind the pistol range had a few puddles.
There were a couple of guys shooting clay pigeons down on the trap range. I didn't go over that far so can not comment on conditions.
The road in was fine. There are a few slushy areas but the road bed was solid so any car could make it in.
Be careful right at the range gate tho.
The run-off has created a fairly deep trench right in front of the range gate in the center of the road. You can easily go around it tho and pass thru the gate.

    See y'all in the A.M.
