They're ok. Good for plinking, storing, truck.. Just be aware of what you remove/add if you choose to do so. (Silly ATF thing);)

Yugo isn't a brand name per say, it's short for Yugoslavia a county next to Romania and Hungray...or near Italy. Anyhow, the SKS is simular to the AK in more than one way. They both have a lot of knocks offs on the markets and some are better than others. The Yugo SKS is a nice variant of the SKS rifle.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about compliance parts...BATF's artical 922(r). The BATF has laws that govern imported firearms into the US. The main one is 9rr which breaks a firearm down in to "X" amount of parts. I'm not sure about an SKS but an AK 47 is 16 parts. In order for an AK to be legal, it has to have something like 6 US made parts on it. Replacing any of these 6 US made parts with orginal forigen parts would place the gun in violation of artical 922(r). Which puts you at odds with the ATF. There really isn't anything to worry about when you buy from a dealer. All their imported firearms complies with all BATF rules. He's simply suggesting becareful of private sales. People tend to install what ever not knowing or caring about the law.

Here is a link on some info posted on an SKS board:

Anyhow, I would look into an AK47 my self ;)

yugo SKS's are good guns. simple, heavy, and disasterproof.

i previously owned an unissued rifle and it shot 2moa groups with decent silver bear ammo. it actually is a pretty nice rifle but did not really have a role in my armory.

another big negative is that grenade launcher on the front; all it does is add unnecessary length.

    values: NIB/unissued - $225; Excellent - $200; VGood - $175.

I sold mine for $200 while i was in California, where these things are more in demand. Some people these days think their Yugo's are worth a ridiculous amount; dont fall for that because they are widely available

Just a few years ago when the Yugos were coming in to the States, you could buy a shooter grade for about $80 or so. I bought some new unissued ones for about $100 then. Don't let the value of the one you would trade for be too much.

Recently got my first SKS. First thing I did was strip the stock and refinish it to a Walnut/Mahogany finish. Then I discovered the 20lb trigger pull so I've bought the Wolff springs and will send ithe trigger group off to be worked. Supposedly, it will come back with a 3lb pull and greatly reduced creep. Then it's rock and roll time!

The yugo sks is the best sks variant out there. You have a low-priced rifle that's more accurate than the AK-47, has high quality parts, and has a built in GL. It's probably the best deal out there and you'll be sorry if you don't own at least one.

I used to have one, I sold it to a buddy when I bought an AR. I upgraded to the Williams Fire sights and that made it much easier to shoot for me. I took a deer with it right after I cleaned the cosmoline out, so it stayed my hunting "carbine" for a while. Great guns, and they are easy to take care of.
