He said he supported UBCs. I don't and never will. There's only one way to enforce UBCs and that is registration, another thing I absolutely do not support.

I don't support them either. I don't think Luttrell is that good of a spokesperson. I don't believe he thought through his answers, or expressed them very eloquently. He either misrepresented his opinions, or he's wrong on the point of UBC's. Regardless, he is a patriot who served his country honorably and with distinction and deserves our respect for this, if not his views on gun control or the POTUS. I was very disturbed by his position of obeying the president, even if the orders were wrong.

I'd be honored to meet this guy. I don't expect everyone to have the same beliefs as me. If that's true, I'd never be able to listen to music or watch TV/movie bc all those liberal bastards.

    Question him about what?

I read that statement as it's easy to talk about someone and their positions online. Maybe you act more gangsta in the words you type vs. sitting face to face with an American hero. In other words, I bet you wouldn't say it to his face.

The reason I wouldn't confront him has nothing to due with who he is but it just wouldn't be appropriate to do so at a public appearance. So it's not some big gotcha when people refrain from acting an ass even when they don't agree with with a person. Additional I don't think anyone needs to automatically go along with a persons beliefs no matter how heroic they have been in the past.

    Lol.

I think it's kinda funny. Not sure if someone mis spoke because they were on the spot, so go put them on the spot in front of a bunch of people and find out for sure, lol.

I see, because he is a hero one has to agree with his beliefs? Or one wouldn't dare disagree with him if they were face to face?

I don't recall anyone saying just because someone is a hero (or anyone who is a celebrity, rich, movie star, or whatever) you have to agree with him. Then again, I don't think that some of the people who are posting here would speak to him with as much disrespect and invective in person as has been displayed here, online. I do believe he, as all veterans, deserves respect (not agreement) due to the sacrifices and experiences he has made for our nation.

I dont think anyone has posted with much disrespect at all. There are some that seem to have put him on a pedestal and maybe some of his politics have caused him to fall off for others. That's life. Look how people here talk about McCain. Prisoner of war for 6 years, tortured, and still refused out of sequence repatriation. I think that is some of the bravest stuff I ever heard of. How have you heard people here speak of him? Yeah Marcus has nothing to complain but compared to that. Stating you don't really care about going to a personal appearance because of a political stance or comments isn't disrespect in my book.

Agreed, Luttrell is a self-admitted asshole and there's more than just his comments about UBCs that I disagree with. I respect what he did as a SEAL as much as I do any other SEAL, but the fact that there are argumentative issues about his book and even the mere fact that he felt compelled to write one is enough to not make me a fan.

If someone wants to go see him because Mark Wahlberg played him in a movie, than I am glad they get the opportunity to meet the man.

And to the OP, I have no qualms about you posting this up. In fact, I appreciate anyone who shares information that others may want to know. I simply stated I would pass on the chance to meet Luttrell and gave my reasons. If others believe differently, than I wish them the best and hope the have a positive experience.

Wouldn't be appropriate to do it in public face to face, but perfectly cool to do it anonymously on a public forum. Ok, got it. I never said anyone should automatically go along with anything. I just said I'd be honored to meet him. Not because of his stance on UBCs or who he supports for President or any other political opinion, but because the guy is a hero in my opinion. And yes, I know some of the details in the movie/book were greatly fictionalized. Apparently so was Kyle's book and movie. Hollywood embellishments don't change how I feel about either man.

Why are you asking me? I just answered your question about what I thought was meant by that statement. I already gave my position on how relevant I find his beliefs to be in my first post in this thread.

Yeah I quoted you but I didn't mean to imply that I was asking you. Sorry.

It would depend on the venue. If he were speaking at a wounded vet event, or doing a book signing I think it would be inappropriate to get in his face about his position on UBC. If he were speaking at the NRA convention about doing all you can to protect gun rights, it would be wholly appropriate, as would it be if he were running for office.
