    Anyone?

I'm 41 and may have psoriatic arthritis.

Went to a rheumatologist this afternoon, and had blood drawn.

His initial educated guess is the above, but I won't know for a few days.

Starting a corticosteroid in the morning. Hope it knocks out the pain.

What sucks the most is that its showing up in my trigger finger.

I know it could be worse, but damn it sucks when things like this show up in life.

Good luck! Hope it works out as only a minor thing! :green:
Thank you. I'll update as I learn what hand I was dealt.

Just got off the phone with mom. Sounds like her bloodline is the source. Both her parents had it, and so does she.

I'm close to your age. X-rays show it in my wrists, elbows, and fingers.

I have arthritis almost everywhere and it takes turns on which joints flare up with pain. Some pain is severe and some is outrageous. It depends on the day and whose turn it is to fire up.

I refuse to take drugs and rely on magnets, Tens pain control units and a few home remedies. It's a constant challenge to identify pain control methods and to identify triggers that make the joints flare up. Unfortunately, the latest experiments proved that Chinese food is a major trigger. One meal of Chinese food will cripple me for a week! I love Chinese food and I'm gonna miss it!

As to the "shots", Bonnie determined that they make her gain weight and cause other unpleasant side effects for her. Try them and see how they work for you.

Good luck! Your best option is to see what works best for YOU. There are no "one size fits all" remedies!

Definitely no one-size fits all remedies; but I'll pass along my 40 years plus experience of some pretty nasty bouts with various arthritic ailments. Psoriatic arthritis is a different animal; but I believe I've benefited greatly by keeping my uric acid in check with small doses of alopurinol(zero side effects that I can see), eliminating sucralose(Splenda) and making sure my potassium levels are high enough. Unfortunately, "they" say sugar contributes to all sorts of inflammation...certainly my weakness; but I have cut back.

Again, psoriatic is different; but five years ago, the docs recommended a double knee replacement since my knees were so chewed up with arthritis. Following the above and taking krill oil with hyaluronic acid daily has allowed me to skip the surgery and I can still ride 25-30 miles on a mountain bike with virtually no trouble in my joints(plenty of other parts are screaming for the next 12 hours; but not my knees).

    Best of luck, scap.

I've had arthritus as long as I can remember. Some times it all I can do to pick up a pencil. Docs thought I would be wheelchair bound years ago. No meds and no pain killers. Sometimes I do wear knee braces if the pain gets too bad. Rarely a chiropractor. But only for a few visits.
This is one case where I can honestly say, I feel your pain.
Not one single joint in my body works right. Not even my toes.

Regarding the Chinese food, MSG is a trigger for all sorts of joint-related challenges, even in folks withOUT arthritis. Ginger, on the other hand, is known to bring some relief to arthritis sufferers in certain cases. Ain't life a HOOT !?!?!

I misrepresented the truth when I said earlier that I don't take any drugs. I rely on OTC pain killers like Aspirin, Aleve, Tylenol and Ibuprofin. I'm very careful not to plug too much into my system as some of that can burn your Liver up in short order.

What I have the red ass over is the way doctors have become pill pushers. They are in collusion with drug companies who sponsor their pill dispensing. One of the biggest changes was the change from "take two as needed" to getting the patient established on a daily "maintenance dose." The patient gets plugged into the drug system as a cash cow.

When pain gets outrageous, I rely on "Tens" units. They were sold only on prescriptions but now, Amazon will ship you one pronto.....no questions asked! Those units for a paltry $25-$40 will provide relief pretty quickly. You may need to experiment with electrode placement, but they are very effective!

Magnets may not work for everyone, but they work for me! One elbow is a terror! I put a magnet wrap over the elbow and the magnets bring a gradual relief. A second benefit is having the wrap act as a shield for bashes and bangs as you go through your day. It's a law written on a stone tablet. If someone bashes into you, it will always be on the inflamed arthritis joint!

Some folks have good luck with copper. Copper never helped me.

Thanks for the info on Chinese food. Eating it guarantees an entire week of intense pain. It's easier to just eat something else!

Ok, blood work is negative for anything rheumatic, lupus, or gout related.

That leaves psoriatic on the table.

Plenty of things in my family history and current symptoms point to this as highly likely.

Started methyltrexate this evening. If it doesn't work we move on to Otezla. If that don't work, then Humira.

Oddly enough this may be the source of my decades old chronic back pain.

Do you take anything for acid reflux? I was having awful joint pain for a while until I stopped taking that prescription. I can't remember the name of it at the moment.

Diet is important, but you'll have to do some experimenting since nothing seems universal. But diet is not a cure all.

Supplements, copper, magnets, baltic amber, etc. don't cure anything, but that doesn't stop me from trying or using them. When things are bad, every little bit helps.

My worst problem is with my knees. Braces or an ace bandage helps. Icy hot helps too. There's a reason it's been around so long. Australian dream does some good as well, even though it has no odor and you don't feel any burn with it. These things won't stop all the pain, but can help to make it more manageable.

I've been considering a copper bracelet. Should have enough in my shed to make a chain mail suit.

Woot will sell good TENS units every so often for around $40 (retail $300+). Mobic is a very inexpensive prescription drug for arthritis or muscle pain from over doing things the day before.

I've been considering a copper bracelet. Should have enough in my shed to make a chain mail suit.

It leaves a green stain on your wrist when it gets warm out and you sweat. You can paint the back side of it with a clear nail polish or spray it with a can of automotive clear coat to help keep the skin staining down, but if you do all that, is the copper really doing anything if it's not touching your skin?

On the flip side, there's some braces out there that are supposedly copper infused. I've got them at Walmart in the as seen on TV section and also seen them at HEB. They have Brett Farve's picture on them. It's almost like a spandex sleeve with supposed copper fibers in it. They do work better than other braces I've tried when you balance comfort and pain management.

I stopped wearing my copper bracelet (but might start again if the pain gets bad), but I'm not ready to swear off copper because I like the Brett Farve braces so well. I even bought one for my elbow for some days.
