I hate our city council. Our mayor is out of touch (because of bribery/favors) and nothin good happens because of it.

I refuse to drink and drive. I refuse for others to drink and drive. Without a decent taxi service who can show up within 10-20min taxis are worthless. My last taxi took 3-1/2hrs and I found another ride because I thought they forgot about me after not sending a car in 2 hours after 4 phone calls.

Uber and Lyft work. The cars and drivers are nicer than any taxi service and pick ups happen in 5-10mins at the most. So why run them out of town for safety? There is no good argument. Why have a rule that the drivers be fingerprinted? No reason. Nelda says safety.

Nelda Martinez = Special Needs Mayor. Corrupted

That has not been my experience with taxi service in Corpus. Background checks protect the citizens, which is the responsibility of the Council

Why do you so desperately want to be out and about while drinking?

I don't drink that much at all, but football season will be here. I will drink. I've never had a taxi show up within an hour of their promised time in Corpus Christi.

How the shit am I gonna get home when I need to go? I don't want to drive after I drink. I don't support the taxi services that have treated me like a nuisance every single ride. I can't always find a DD that doesn't drink either.

Uber and Lyft was the best option for anyone who didn't want to break the law or be close to breaking the law. There are charts about how many drinks that you can have before you're close to .08, but I don't trust them. I've fought a DWI where I was arrested with a 0.00BAC and won but it cost me $5k. That's too much.

Like i said, I'm going to drink. I probably won't get drunk or close to it when I'm out, but I don't even want to think about drinking and driving. I won't do it and now my options are 1. Don't drink or leave my house 2. Drink and drive 3. Ride with someone who's drinking and driving (lost at least 2 good friends this way, 1 burned alive while the driver couldn't save him) 4. Wait hours for a dirty cab while I'm being disrespected

Blame Uber. They can serve Corpus, but don't want to face any scrutiny.

I still don't get the necessity to drink to excess
Freedom of choice, no "necessity" required. "Background checks protect the citizens" < yet more control nonsense.

Salty, when I had my bar I found independent DDs that charged a nominal flat fee for a a ride home within X miles (varied) many would take you back for your car the next day. Just enterprising individuals and not likely exactly legal but I retained several on occasions such as New Year's Eve for the convenience and safety of my customers. I paid them a small fee, free hotdogs and soft drinks to hang out, be available, I did not usually pay for the ride. Just a thought, caveat emptor.

I don't drink to excess. I've been arrested with a 0.00 BAC in the past. I don't want to drink at all and drive. I don't enjoy driving on the weekends and u don't enjoy a fine business being forced out of town because the city says the drivers have to be fingerprinted.

Im done with Nelda ruling corpus like a tyrant. If it's a safety issue why not let the consumers know and let us go on our way. There are cities that are an example of how uber works in Texas.

The only arguements I've heard against uber is that only drunks use it and some uber driver murdered some people up north. Since that guys not a driver and I'm not a drunk, neither argument applies anymore.

What I don't understand is why smart people drink at all. No good comes of it. Especially when they can't get a ride from a friend. You get hassled by the police then get mad at them for doing their job. I guess each to their own.

Have to laugh at the drink Nazis here!! lol I rarely drink now but to question others wanting to say, visit 6th street in Austin and bar hop while catching a buzz and then getting a cab home is funny. Did it in college and had a blast with no arrests. Just like ex-Smokers I guess. lol

Calling anyone here a nazi is idiotic. YOU are the one upset you cannot use a particular company who refuses to background check their drivers. YOU are the one who wants to drink out. Millions of people drink outside of the home daily without police intervention.

Tex Skeet, guess your the smartest person on this forum. Really! LOL

    Not sure if serious.

I did most of my drinking in my late teens and early 20's. There was no uber and we finally had beepers in my early 20's. It wasn't hard to find a responsible way to go out drinking and not drive.

What's the tow truck service like?

You get a ride and your car home safe.

I haven't tried that yet. Sounds pricey. Last tow was from the beach and it cost me 120$.

I dont understand why people would post on a thread about ride sharing about not drinking. If I don't want to drive I'm not. It's about getting a ride.

As a consumer, I always felt safe with uber. I don't care about fingerprints or whatever. It's as simple as I want to go somewhere and I'll pay for a service. I don't want less options and uber worked reliably. I don't want bullshit from the city.
