OK, I'll address the elephant in the room....

    What's with MIL/LEO only classes?

It means no open enrollment. You must be in the military or an active leo to attend. lol.

The deal is, unreliable-ass civilians engaged in the following:

    • No-shows
    • Cancelling at the last minute
    • Wanting to reschedule a day or two before class
    • Probably lots of other things

Frankly, I dealt with much the same, which is part of the reason I shut down my business and stopped offering classes. In my case, I think some of it had to do with being near Austin, and having run several deals on sites like Living Social (HUGE mistake), which just frankly attracts the wrong crowd. I remember having one student call in the morning of class, and saying he couldn't make it because he was hung over. Fucking ridiculous.

I don't want to speak for Kenan, as I haven't talked to him in quite awhile and may not have the whole story. That being said, I'm sure it's much easier for him and guys like him to just focus on training contracts with departments and military units, as well as other contract/consulting services.

Simple answer to "why no more civilian classes?" is that they were almost universally on weekends, while Mil and LEO training is usually done Mon-Friday......also, working with Govt contracts does not require the marketing and advertisement (chasing customers) that the civilian classes require.

I had a good time training civilians, but had to make some choices in regards to family and financial situation.

Did you do almost exclusively group classes?

    I haven't experienced this with the private classes. 150+ classes a year maybe 2 to 3 no-shows/cancellations/re-schedules.

OK, whatever, do you teach any MIL/LEO classes, Jon?

Yes, indeed I do. I just taught the Cherokee CO SWAT team in a Red Dot Pistol School that was closed enrollment/for their people only. I'm also a TCOLE Firearms Instructor for my Sheriff's Office. Haven't taught a military only class in quite a while though.

I've had good success with open enrollment classes. One of the differences may be I have full time admin personnel that answer phones, generate enrollment rosters, manage our website etc.

I see this as related to what AT&T trained it's managers a few years ago, sharing a story about Apple's iTunes. People said he was nuts, asking for money for what people were downloading for free. Jobs said, they will pay for it when it is legal and safe and most importantly- EASY.

Sounds like you are making it easy for them to find the information, schedule and ideally to attend.

I found that with a quality webpage and easy scheduler I would only field about 5 calls a year for 150+ classes.
