Just curious about the double edged knife rules.

I know you get the short end if the stick if you have one on you. I believe its ok to have one in your home.

I was at the Premier gun show and a seller with out the front knives called me over to take a look. He had several double edge out the front knives. I know out the front/switchblades are fine to buy and carry. But is he asking for a world of hurt selling double edged blades ? If you purchased one how would you go about getting it home :) lol if you cant carry one outside your home.

Here's the short story. A push dagger is an illegal knife. Illegal knives are not illegal to own. Generally speaking it is an offense to carry an illegal knife. IANAL, YMMV, ETC. Refer to Texas Penal Code for more info and refer to your attorney for clarification.

Illegal knives are not illegal to sell and they can still be lawfully carried in many circumstances. For example, if you have an LTC and are carrying a handgun you may carry an illegal knife. Or in your vehicle, etc...

    Gunz are icky.
    Legal to purchase.
"Legal to carry" or not is up to the po-po when they see it.
If Officer Dontlikeyou doesn't like you that day you get to wear shiny bracelets.
If he thinks it's cool, you don't get to wear the shiny bracelets.
You may win in court later but it will cost mucho dinero to get there.
Me thinks why bother? Just carry a regular old folding single edge knife.
Double edge knives suck as tools anyway.
Don't go running around all drunk ninja like and the po-po will leave you alone.
I see people all the time wearing sheath knives.

I was just at the Houston gun show and a vendor told me that with a CHL we can carry a double edge knife. I had never heard of this change and its not mentioned in the DPS handbook they give out to CHL/LTC folks.
Don't get me wrong this make a world of sense that someone licensed to carry a gun should be able to carry anything less lethal so to speak.
Anyone heard anything definitive on the issue?

What could possibly be more definitive than the word of a gun show vendor?

Given the law TXI quoted earlier today in another thread, if I have an LTC, I can legally carry what would be considered an illegal knife if I wasn't in possession of an LTC.

That being said, what continues to define as an illegal knife even with an LTC or are there no limitations?

An illegal knife is ALWAYS an illegal knife. The law defines when it is unlawful to carry one on our about your person. Even if lawful to carry, it is still an illegal knife by definition. Screwy, ain't it?

Illegal knives are defined in penal code 46.01

    TXI,

    Yes, quite screwy.

So with an LTC, I can legally carry an illegal knife, right?

If so, this is quite a conundrum. How can something be legal and illegal simultaneously?

With my LTC, am I legally allowed to carry a double edged blade over 5.5" or is there a limit even with the legal/illegal conundrum?
