They would have kicked your door in, shot your dog, and ransacked your home. Not hyperbole: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berwyn_Heights,_Maryland_mayor's_residence_drug_raid

Wow(!) Dan, that's a great article. The paragraph under "Later Arrests" pretty much describes what fishingsetx was saying as what may have been taking place during my "open carry" experience. Again, that's a scary thought to think someone could just pick your address at random! (But then again, that's what happens with home invasions a lot of the time).

I see a lawsuit was brought and the mayor received an "undisclosed" amount of money as a result (but, of course, at the cost of his two Labs lives).... not to mention him being "grilled" in his underwear for a couple of hours! [Some seriously out-of-control police depts there - but it looks like some of the reforms should help keep that kind of circus from happening in the future]

Can a Mod delete the last 3 pages and get this thread back on track?

    Just asking....

As a chunky girl who can bitch and nag with the best of them, I've been waiting for this too.

I guess I can try to get this started back up.

OC today as we travel to visit family. Driving through Bay City right now.

A couple of weeks ago we had an interesting conversation with a couple at Best Buy and an employee. They were commenting from afar on my husband's OC and didn't know that I was eavesdropping and was connected to him. I took the opportunity to engage them in a conversation. Seems the couple was pro-concealed carry/ guns for sure, but MAYBE critical of OC? Couldn't really tell. Seems like after seeing my hubby OC, the clerk was inspired to recount her story to this couple about how the first day that Texas OC was legal that someone flashed their holstered weapon at her in a pointed way when she couldn't give some sort of advertised deal or whatever the asshole customer thought he were entitled to get and wasn't able to.

Husband walked over and joined in the conversation and we all agreed that OC is not meant to intimidate, it was for self defense and anybody trying to use it to intimidate innocent others should not be allowed to carry in public.

I think the conversation might have been negative towards OC at the start before I chimed in, but I didn't really hear that much before deciding to butt in and make some points about how it's not an unsafe thing to be doing.

I invited the lady to shoot with us at 'a girl and a gun' practice as she was new to shooting and just got her LTC.

Coming home from work and stopped by a convenience I always stop at while OCing to grab a Dr Pepper and a bag of chips. It was probably 9pmish. The cashier's friend was there and just stared at me for a few mins. I gave her a smile and went on about my transaction. She asked me "what you a cop or something? Why you carrying a gun?", "No ma'am." "Isn't it supposed to be concealed?" "At the start of the year the law changed and now you can carry open or concealed as long as you have the license." She didn't say anything after that. I told her and the clerk to have a good night and went about my night.

I can kind of see why they would be somewhat worried as the station across the street had just been robbed at gunpoint about two weeks ago.

Has anyone else ever gotten a "mis-directed" package like that? Have you ever heard of such shenanigans as that? (I've often wondered if it was just an honest mistake or was the guy "casing the joint" in some way?). In any case, he certainly lacked normal conversational skills when he started accusing me of wanting to keep the package or trying to open it.... neither, of which, even crossed my mind!). What do you guys think was going on?

Sent from my Apple thang using Tapatalk

I'd have probably opened it, honestly. It came to your house. Then I'd do the "oops, what the hell is this?..oh, this isn't my name." routine. If it was drugs, I'd call the cops and ask them to be there when the turd showed up.

He might also have done this before when you weren't there. They leave the package on the doorstep and he goes up and takes it. He's not really stealing if it was addressed to him. But when the cops trace the drugs or illegal whatever, it's going to your house. Incidentally, did you check his ID? Was the package addressed to J. J. Jingleheimer Schmidt? Fake name, fake address...unopened package. Then he says "it went there by mistake". Sounds like a regular con to me.

Don't think he was casing the place though. Maybe bought something legit but with a stolen credit card number?

And that's the lack of logic. They see you walking up to the counter with a bag of chips and a coke, calmly, and open carrying. Now, how many robberies start out that way. No hoodie? Pants pulled up? Guessing a sturdy belt and holster?

BTW, on that topic of logic, now that we've had 12 months of OC, and about 5 months of CampusC, where are the massive death tolls the left promised us? Where are the 10 paces at noon shootouts in the streets? Where are the intimidations of the professors by the students? When is the sky going to actually start falling?!?!

Actually, my questions is "Where are all the LTCs?" We've had a rash of gun related crimes in the tomball area recently. It's 100% of the time turds from Houston. It's not locals. But where are all of the proud LTC holders? I'd have thought we'd have had at least a few stories of armed resistance by now. Not to say that's always the smartest way, but we still have too many victims. If the story went more like this, maybe the crime rate would drop:

    "Where's Pookie?"
"Ah, he went to Tomball to rob some rich white folk."
"Oh hell. Better call his moms. Pookie aint gonna make it back. Them Tomball people crazy."

Nope; didn't check his ID. Since he knocked on my door and was looking specifically for a FedEx package, didn't seem necessary to check his ID. I did ask him, "how did he know it was delivered to my address?" He said he had traced or called FedEx and that's how he discovered they had the wrong delivery address. Again, kinda struck me as being a little odd.
Between security cameras and typically one or two adults (not counting me) always being at the house, I doubt it has happened before. Ordering with a stolen credit card is a possibility and that could have been the name on the package. If it was something nefarious, after he saw my pistol, I'm guessing my address won't be used again!

honestly, I think open carrying might really be a deterrent if the perp notices it and decides "screw this, I don't need this, let's go elsewhere." However, I'm not running around trying to stop robberies, and I wouldn't want my husband to either. It's for self defense if I need it, not to stop random crimes at every opportunity. I don't see LTC holders as general crime fighters, that's what I am saying.

I keep getting notifications for more and more gas stations posting 30.06 and 30.07. What is the deal with this!? You would think they would want us carrying there and I damn sure know I want to be carrying!

ive said it before. I have a feeling that most of these are not new signs going up, but people that didnt know about texas3006.com and are posting their local stores that have had the signs since 1/1/16 or before. Most of the ones that went up around here as a knee jerk reaction have come back down and are no longer posted.

Not completely true. I know of places that were never posted before that were posted 30.06 after Jan 1, 2016.

same around here, but I also saw a bunch of places pop up on 3006.com after 1/1/16 that had been posted since I got my license. I cant think of any place that posted 30.06 after 1/1/16 that still has the posting up 1/1/17. there are still quite a few 30.07.

The 30.06 places I'm referring to still have theirs up. The majority of the new signs I see are 30.07 as you say. I've seen one place that put up a 30.06 and a 30.07 sign up in Jan take the 30.06 sign down.

GHRA is posting every store that is part of their association, even ones up here in BCS. I talked to one owner about it and he told me that they threatened to drop him from the association if he didnt do it and he would lose the bulk purchasing discount that the association gets. So he put stuff up in front of them so that they are not visible but they are still hanging so that he doesnt get the boot.

Man! That's a slippery slope covered in bullshit. So the GHRA, probably headed by some liberals, are anti gun and threaten their members if they don't put up a completely optional sign. What's next? Require them to put up a Black Lives Matter sign or be dropped? I think the power of our dollars are more important than the buying discount power of the GHRA. If we gun owners/carriers would band together and have a collective voice to boycott any store with a 30.06/07 sign, those stores would give the big FU to the GHRA. It'd take just a week or two before the GHRA changed their policy. But we'd have to have a collective voice, not just one activist handing out a business card or threatening not to eat at a restaurant when the parking lot is already full anyway. Perhaps if the Texas3006 website took it one step farther and said "...and we're collectively boycotting these stores..." and the subscribers let it be known it was happening, Texas3006 would have some serious muscle. It'd be like our own lobbying group. Either that or organize a few peaceful picketing demonstrations.
