I do not know what happened or why but my vortex HST 24x50 scope is broken. It has been on my 308 for I believe over a year now and has always held zero perfect. The other day I went to the range and the zero was way way off! Took it to the 25 yard lane to try to zero it in again and it still was not even on paper. Tried to do a bore sight and I was able to get it on paper but it was still shooting very high at 25 yards and I had no elevation left to go down. When I got home I inspected the rings and rail to make sure everything was still tight and they were. The rifle was not dropped or hit on anything that I know of. I took the scope off and closer inspection of it I realized that the reticle was not in the center of the scope. The cross hairs were off center up and to the right. I called vortex and they are no questions asked going to fix or replace for free (soon as I get my lazy butt to the post office and ship it).

What could of caused this? Again I know I did not drop the scope or bang it against anything at least that I can think of.

They told Dawico that he overtightened the rings. They will probably tell you the same thing.
Thats what they said on the phone when I called them but I torqued it to the spec with a torque inch lb screw driver. Irregardless they are still going to fix it even if I did do something wrong. Thats the beauty of the vortex unconditional warranty

Yep, but really I dropped it and knocked the erector loose. Apparently this is a common issue.

They didn't care though. User error but brand new scope 6 days later.

Got the email that they received it and 3 hours later a shipping tracker email.

    I did everything online.

Just watch their shipping guidelines. The factory box isn't enough. I put mine in the box and put it all in another box.

    No problems.

Thanks for the reminder, I did see that being I do not have the original box it came in I am going to have either the ups store pack it or fed ex and they told me to make sure I insure the shipment as they do not cover lost or stolen.

According to tracking the scope was delivered to vortex today. Lets see how long it takes for me to get it back or a new one.

Vortex will send you an email that they received it.

If it is like mine, a few hours later you will get an email stating it is in transit back to you.

I hope that it goes as fast as yours did. I have been dying to actually shoot my 308 with the new buttstock and muzzle brake.

I always hate it when I knock the erector loose....

It was delivered yesterday but I have yet to receive an email that they received it. Called and left a voicemail to see if they did get it. I always get nervous with ups and fed ex when shipping expensive items.

ussoldier1984: How's the HST glass compare to the PST?

I wouldn't know because I do not own a pst but my buddy does and I wish I bought the pst because of the 1st focal plane vs 2nd and the illuminated reticle. But the HST glass is great. Very clear and easy to focus.

I have both in FFP and they are the same, at least with my older models.

Used to be they were identical but the PST had an illuminated reticle. I believe the HSTs might be a little different now but I am not positive.

I own cheap and expensive Vortex scopes and the glass is very good on all of them.
